What do people think China will be like after the Olympics? The Chinese government has conformed in some ways to international interests, but in others it has remained steadfast (e.g. its continued position on Sudan). There's also been a lot of talk about China's high tech industry and the high tech race in the coming years. Any thoughts/comments? Economic, social, and political topics all welcome and encouraged.

International interests can be described in a number of categories. Peace, economics.....

China by its sheer number of people alone will be of economic interest to to the rest of the world.

As you pointed out there are the opportunities for industries to have things done cheaply in China. Western countries seem to be a long way from putting controls on their industries and seem to make little attempt to force them to trade in a more moral way. It would take a lot of cooperation between countries to cooperate in an international effort to make laws to force their industries to trade in a more moral way.

Human rights organisations will continue to make the public aware of human rights issues in the hopes that people will put pressure on their governments to do more.

The Olympics are not a magic wand that will change everything. They simply provide some leverage.
