VOLUNTEER IN VIETNAM TO PROMOTE PEACE THROUGH ARTS
20 EUROPEAN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

For the Mid-autumn festival this year the international youth exchange organization Solidarités Jeunesses Vietnam (SJ Vietnam), in collaboration with Youth Action for Peace (YAP) and the Network for Voluntary Development in Asia (NVDA), will prepare a special work camp, called ARTE DIEM 2008.
We will welcome 30 young volunteers (20 from Europe and 10 from Asia) to promote a culture of peace and dialogue.

What is ARTE DIEM 2008?
ARTE DIEM has been successful projects since 1999. The idea is to gather young people from different backgrounds to reflect about art and how it can serve as a tool to build a peaceful society.
Through discussion, creativity, learning and workshop, barriers cultural and even languages incomprehension, can be broken down and new ideas can born in order to promote peace through art and voluntarism. Volunteers will also share life experiences of local population who are disabled, disadvantaged or live in poverty.
For the first time ARTE DIEM will be managed together by European and Asian volunteers, member of YAP and NVDA networks.
It takes place in Hanoi, one of the most beautiful capitals in Asia, and lasts from 03. to 20. September 2008.

What will we do there?
During one week, the Asian and International Volunteers will create and organize together various different activities like an international theater presentation of the book “The little prince” with handicapped children, crafting of candlelit lanterns and masks or cooking the traditional ‘moon cake’. Afterwards they will present the result of their work at the mid-autumn festival to the Hanoi public: The children and families and to the tourists.
During our preparation we will also work with 300 poor and disadvantaged children from the ‘fisher village’ (children living on boat on the ‘Red river’ in Hanoi), the ‘National Pediatric Hospital’ and many other social institutions and welfare centers. It will be a great chance for the children not only to participate actively in the preparation and realization but also to escape positively from their daily life.
After the festival, volunteers will organize art workshops with the children (painting, sculpture, photography) and exhibitions in prestigious places in Hanoi (embassies, cultural centers, schools). We hope to bring smiles and happiness to children at hospital, street kind and disadvantaged children.

How to apply?
Please sent an email to <snip>and explain why exactly you want to take part in this wonderful workcamp. Show us your vision for this project, your motivation and your enthusiasm working with disadvantaged children and international volunteers.

Hello Aline :)

I moved this to the forum which is for those wanting to share travel related links.

Does these organisations charge a fee to volunteers?

Volunteers have to pay 15€ for subscription to the organization (valid for one year).
Then, they pay 135€ for the workcamp fees (insurance and administration).
18€ are asked as an International Solidarity Fund, so that people from Southern countries with few means can come and participate in a workcamp in France.
The volunteer has to pay for his travel.
Some arrangements can be made for volunteers who want to take a leading role in the workcamp.
Accomocation, food and cultural visits are for free.
