Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 5517 Msg: #2 158 days ago, August 4th 2008 | Hello dpelangi :) | You can take bus 556 at least as far as the Khao San Road. I dont know where it goes after that. If it goes all the way to the Southern Bus station then that will take around 2 hours from the Don Muang Airport. I am not sure exactly because I never timed it. It doesnt go from Suvarnabhumi airport. Outside Suvarnabhumi airport you can take a free of charge shuttle bus to Don Muang Airport. To get from the Southern bus station to Phukett it take around 15 hours. Personally I dont think you will make it to the Southern Bus station on time to take an evening bus to Phukett. I am not so sure there are any that run after around 8PM. Maybe there is somebody here who knows for sure. Maybe a night on or near the Khao San Road would be an idea. You could get a single guesthouse room for around 4 Euros per night. Then you could take the number 3 public bus near the Khao San Road to the Southern Bus station the next afternoon for a few pennies. No, I dont think the Southern Bus station will be dangerous even for a girl. Thailand is one of the safer destinations for female travellers. If you do stay on the Khao San Road be sure to go on the passanger boat on the river. You can get all the way down or up the river for around 50 cents. A nice and inexpensive way to spend a few hours before going to the bus station. I also will arrive in BKK Suvarnabhumi airport at about 7.40pm in December, and am trying to get a night bus from the Southern Bus Terminal that same night to get down to Surat Thani (to go to Koh Phangan) by next day. I don't know if there will be enough time to do this - how long it takes to get from BKK to the bus terminal - can't find the information anywhere! | I have to disagree with Mell here and agree with you that there IS bus 556 that goes from BKK to the Southern bus terminal - just no-one knows how long it takes... I fear it might be a while seeing as they are on way opposite sides of the city! Have you been able to find any more information? Rat on the Road Kris and Kate Post Count: 32 Msg: #5 118 days ago, September 13th 2008 | Have you considered flying to Phuket? It's really cheap with Thailand's budget airlines, eg. Air Asia, Nok Air....Like around £10 or so,. It only takes about an hour, so you could have a night in Bangkok instead, or an extra one on Phuket. | dpelangi pelangi Post Count: 3 Msg: #6 115 days ago, September 16th 2008 | hi miap.. after discuss with my frens. we decide to cancel going to phuket n change it to pattaya. coz if we still going there, it's just wasting our time. and for our same problem is so hard to find out an information. the limitation of information makes us to change the destination. but if u hv more budget maybe u can try to considered flying with plane. | Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 5517 Msg: #7 115 days ago, September 16th 2008 | I heard that Pattaya is a bit sleezy. Are you sure you want to go there? | Mel Sir Halberd Hal Post Count: 99 Msg: #8 115 days ago, September 16th 2008 | "I heard that Pattaya is a bit sleezy. Are you sure you want to go there?" | * Why not check Pattaya out for yourself and not pass on information that you can not personally verify?? Pattaya is a top destination for married couples, family groups and single travelers! It is a top destination of Koreans, Japanese and Chinese tour groups. Many family groups and couples return to Pattaya year after year! Lots of retirees live there with their wives and children. More and more tourists visit there every year! Yes, lots of bars in Pattaya - also cheap hotels, cheap transportation, several modern malls, good movie theaters, decent restaurants and a good place to simply relax at. No one forces anyone into a bar! Thousands of tourists pass by bars every day and are never forced to participate in anything they do not want to! A tourist could park themselves in Jomtien and never even see a Pattaya City bar! If bars are the decider then no one should visit Phuket because of Patong or Bangkok because of Patpong, Nana or Soi Cowboy! I read so many comments on Pattaya that often have as part of the write up "I heard this," or "I read this" or "my friend told me" etc. Visit Pattaya - be open minded and see more than bars and then complain about it, at least the comment will be first hand!
