KristineShaw Kristine Shaw Post Count: 4 Msg: #1 171 days ago, July 23rd 2008 | I have housing that needs to be fixed up so I'm wondering what are accommodations that are needed and/or desired for travelers. | With the housing and possible job offer, where should I advertise this set up? What experience have you had hosting abroad employees? Kleopattra Helia Aranda Post Count: 21 Msg: #2 171 days ago, July 23rd 2008 | Hi Kristine, | where would your Mexican restaurant will be located? Do you want people from other parts of the world working at your restaurant? If you're living in the States then you'll need to have your employees under some kind of working visa, otherwise, I think they would be consider as working illegally or without permission.. but I'm not really sure.. KristineShaw Kristine Shaw Post Count: 4 Msg: #3 170 days ago, July 23rd 2008 | thanks for your thoughts. It is located in Twisp Washington further known as the Methow Valley. I would like to host all nationalities. How can I sponsor the working visas? | Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 5517 Msg: #4 170 days ago, July 23rd 2008 | Hello Kristine :) | You could advertise on the fora of any travel site which will allow it. But be warned that many of them may be cranky about any type of advertising. It may be worth asking the owner of the sites for permission first to find out what their attitudes are about it. Here on TravelBlog you can have this add here in the Classifieds forum(where I moved it to). You could also put the informtion about what you are offering in your profile. Then when people are asking how they can save money while travelling where you are you could point out the opportunities you are offering. You could also put paper adds on message boards in hostels. There are usually people staying at those who welcome job and money saving opportunities to make their travel money stretch. I dont know what the current US laws are about sponsoring the working visas. Hopefully you can just state that you are sponsoring your foreign employees and that would be that. It would be such a good opportunity for travellers. How long would you want the travellers to work for you? Would it be a year, a few months....? Another thing you could do is advertise at universities in countires where students are allowed to have temporary work permits for the US. Ireland where I come from is one of those countries. At least it was when I was a student. I am presuming that has not changed. Meerim Meerim Post Count: 1 Msg: #6 164 days ago, July 29th 2008 | Hi Kristine! My name is Meerim and i'm international student i have temporary work permits in USA. You can exchange them via the private messaging system. We snip them from the fora to prevent spammers from gathering and using them. | Mel KristineShaw Kristine Shaw Post Count: 4 Msg: #8 164 days ago, July 29th 2008 | Well I have been busy based on all this information! I have posted a chef position from Canada, thru the US, and in Mexico. Our first project is opening a traditional Mexican restaurant, then opening a coffee shop. We are looking for the managers first, then I will post for additional help, both seasonal and long term. here is the website (it doesn't mention opening the restaurant but has some great pictures) www.myblackbirds.com | As for the remodeling the 5 apartment housing, I am still looking for a list for ideal accommodations for housing. I have questions like is it better to have a community kitchen or provide kitchenettes in the room. What about washer and dryers, are coin opp ok or a big turn down? If we have a pet friendly place, does that turn off some travelers? Who has participated in international program like WORK&TRAVEL, H2B like Meerim mentioned? Which one was better? Thanks and have a great day where ever your travels take you today! Kleopattra Helia Aranda Post Count: 21 Msg: #9 158 days ago, August 4th 2008 | Hi Kristine, | what are the qualifications you're looking for? I mean, for the positions you want, what kind of qualifications are you looking for? I've never participated in any of those international programs, but I've heard good things about Work & Travel. KristineShaw Kristine Shaw Post Count: 4 Msg: #10 158 days ago, August 4th 2008 | Well, we have three projects to implement in the next year. Our goal is to turn a newly remodeled building into an event center with a restaurant and bar, cafe, catering, event stage, and two room hotel. We are looking for managers, kitchen and wait staff, event planner/ marketing team, and maintenance workers. We need help now to get the businesses open so there is some administration currently. We are first starting with the restaurant and bar which we are planning for a Mexican grill. The cafe and catering is the next phase. The last phase is opening the event center and 2 room hotel suites in the spring. Depending on the right people and qualifications, we can start any of the phases now. Our goal is to have them if full operation by May, 2009. | The qualifications are hard working, willing to relocate (which as I mentioned we have housing), trust worthy and reliable, and the skills are dependent on the position. As you see there are a lot! It didnt provide the job but gave lots of information about how to find one and made cheap accomodation easy to find. I think a shared kitchen is OK. Travellers are generally used to sharing. They would be spoiled if they actually have their own kitchen in their room. I also think the coin washing machine is OK. It is also what travellers are used to. I am not sure about the pets. I suppose a no menacing pets rule might be wise. [Edited: 08:43 - Mell ] Number of Users: 4 | Number of Posts: 11 | ||||||||||||||||||||
