Basically I just wanted to explain what we will be doing and get some feedback from everyone. So far our plan is to start in Athens Greece and then head out to explore the wonders of Greece such as the Peloponnesian Peninsula, the island Mykonos and basically just play everything by ear. Our plan is to then travel north up the Croatia Coastline. A quick list of the countries we want to see via RailPass are: Hungry, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and then up to Amsterdam. We are really just going to go with the flow so we are very interested in any ideas you have for seeing wonderful sights around Europe. We have many interests from volunteering for organizations, staying with host families, hiking through the mountains, getting to know the local cultures and people. Our plans are very flexible so if you have any suggestions on things to see please let us know. We plan on leaving March 09 or late Feb 09. We plan on living as cheap as possible so any hints on that would be wonderful also. Thanks again for reading Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 4097 Msg: #2 83 days ago, July 19th 2008 | Hello Josh and Rob :) | What about joining www.couchsurfing.com to see if you can find some host families to stay with. If you prefer more independence you could stay at hostels. Most are bookable on the internet these days. Just google hostels and the name of the town or city you want to go to and a list will come up. And if you can put up with a little less comfort you could take overnight trains. I dont usually have a sleeping car reservation when I do this. I just sleep in a seat. I think the sleepers would cost extra over the cost of your RailPass. Taking overnight trains is also useful when covering the distances you want to cover. Unless a route has particularly good views then spending so many daytime hours on trains could get boring. It is impossible to recommend things for you to do in each country without knowing you because everybody has their own travel agenda. What you could do is get a copy of the Lonely Planet guide for Europe. That will give information about transport, money, sights, safety, accomodation...... It is available in most bookshops around the world for around 30 Euros.
