Visa situation Tibet
15 years ago, July 3rd 2008 No: 1 Msg: #40826
I want to go Tibet at August 25th. I would come with the train from Beijing an leave to Kathmandu. I've read that you have to be a member of a Tibet tour. Is there a specific or recommended organization i can go with? I have a three month visa for China. Is this visa enough or do i need a special visa for Tibet? Thanks in advance. Hi Christoph,
I just booked clients to China and Tibet and they needed a Tibet Permit in addition to their Chinese visa. As for the tour, you just have to basically have a tour guide - e.g. it can be a private tour for two people, it doesn't have to be a bit bus tour or anything. You just need a guide with you pretty much at all times when you are outside of your hotel, etc. What is your home country if you dont mind my asking? I know of several tour companies i work with - mainly Ritz and Pacific Delight Tours that do China and Tibet. They can do a group tour or private tour. I know i have booked them from the US and i'm assuming it could be done from other countries as well, but not 100% sure, which is why i asked where you are from :-) If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask! How much would a guide and permit usually cost per day, Maya? Or does the price depend on which agent one books with?

Hi Mel,
It completely depend on who you book with and what you want to do. Usually I put together the activities that the client wants to do and then am given a price for the whole trip. For my clients, the Tibet permit was $25 (USD) per person which was on top of the China entry visa, which ran them approx. US$130 per person. Reply to this
