Gonna be travelling later this year with a friend starting in Indonesia then onto Borneo and Phillipines, after which ill be moving onto Oz by myself. Im trying to find confimation as to whether an outward bound ticket is needed for immigration to allow me into the country on a tourist visa as ive also read somewhere that they will allow you in without one as long as you have proof of available funds to purchase one at a later date.

Can anyone point me in the rigt direction as to what is actually allowed.

Thanks

Richard

I think it is probably like for many countries. You are supposed to have a ticket out of there but they dont ask to see it when you enter the country. So in reality you may not need one but there is the risk that you might be the unlucky 1 in 500 they ask to show the ticket.

Has anyone reading this been asked to show their ticket out of Australia when they arrived there?

I'm australian and I know for a fact that you definetly need an outbound ticket. Before you arrive in Australia, you would be asked to fill in a form on the plane which will ask you questions like ' are you bringing food items to australia' etc etc and i think one of the questions is 'do you have an outbound ticket?' if answered no, you'll be questioned, detained and then forced to fly back to wherever you came from. if you answered yes to the question, most likely they won't question it but every now and then they would ask for proof.
hope that helps

Hi Richard you should have outbound ticket while <snip> otherwise you will face problems with the cops. If they ask for the ticket then you have no way for escape. Just ask the plane advisor to provide the outbound ticket.
