medieval2008 medieval Post Count: 2 Msg: #1 123 days ago, June 11th 2008 | something you should know when you get to BeiJing during Olympics | The 2008 BeiJing Olympic games is coming up,are you ready to BeiJing to cheer for the ahthletes of your coutry ?Are you ready to enjoy a good visit to China? If you are planning to BeiJing, you should planning everything that will come up during a long travel ,including the accommodation, the traveling, the traffic system of the city, food, famous resort or showplace to visit ,and a lot of other things you must take into account. I'm a postgraduate in BeiJing, and i have lived here for 5 years, i konw what problems and how many problems strangers to BeiJing will come up against, cause' i encountred some of these problems in my first month in BeiJing, and often some of my friends who came from other cities complained all sort of problems.I am living near The Temple of Heaven, every day on my way to my college,i find visitors wandering outside the west gate of The Temple of Heaven not Knowing where the entrance is ,not surprisely, there are a lot of Chinese that encountered the problem, not to mention people from other coutries.Once and again there are guys from other coutry beckon for taxis in the wrong places on the street, and of course no taxis stopped, wasted a lot of time without knowing what the problem is. So ,as a guy who have lived in BeiJing for 5 years , i would frankly remind you guys who is planning to BeiJing for the Olympics or for any other trips that there are something you should really pay attention to . 1) China has exepinced many big changes since the 80's,especially BeiJing. In fact,China is not like description of CNN or BBC or ABC,it is not like the description of CCTV either,if you like fact,if you uphold justice, the best way (and is the only safe way ) to achieve this is to visit China yourself. With your own foot and with your own eyes and ears , you will get more truth than any other newspapper any TV agency. 2 ) As the capital of China,BeiJing directs itself to metropolis in the world,so,despite the economy level of China remain developing or undeveloped ,but is doesn't impair the fact that BeiJing and ShangHai is being built as delegation cards to flaunt the achievement of govenment since 80's.What I mean to say is,Of course BeiJing should not leave many other Chinese areas long long behing ,and it will be talked later but not today, the only thing which is important to you is that most of the time you can enjoy yourself in BeiJing with the integrated public works and good services which is the best in China. 3) China have been open up and reformed for nearly 30 years, but there still many old manner which is not unhappy for anyone.the efficency of government has been improved but it is not wise for most of chinese to believe that has been really improved very much. And the way of handling affairs in oriental asia sometimes is markedly different from west world,so maybe sometimes it is hard for you to understand things happen around you when in China. However,Chinese people are really very hospitable, this tradition is inherited from thousands years ago, when you have arrived China, you'll find more about this and you can comform it yourself. 4) There will be many many people in BeiJing in August,it will be very crowded and sometimes chaos is hard to aviod. The traffic sign and road sign is not enough,as a Chinese who have lived in BeiJing for 5 years,i usually got lost ,not to mention foreigners, cause' most of you don't recognise Chinese Characters. 5 ) If you learn some Chinese before you come to China, you'll find it is very helpfull ,it may even save your life when accident happen. And you should know something about the habits ,about region, and taboo, for fear that you carelessly say something that make people unhappy. 6) In China, negotiation is everywhere, whatever you buy on the street, you are going to bargain ,haggling over the price is a common capability of an adult in China. So,you know now,if you don't know this, maybe you will find yourself "suffer losses" after you buy something,to aviod that sort of thing, you should shopping in supermarket or large mall, but i don't think you can buy everything in supermarket or large mall, especially traditional goods and folk artwork . <snip> Good luck! What is it that they are not telling us, that we should know? Are they telling us untruths? If so, what do they say that you do not agree is true? Mel medieval2008 medieval Post Count: 2 Msg: #3 122 days ago, June 12th 2008 | first ,media bodies in every country are representing their own country! Media bodies never " represent" China or any other country,so ,there in no "misrepresent" to talk about! | 2 sometimes media lie, some times they hide something for some reason that you can easyly imagine,as a result you mistake in their way 3 CNN & BBC & CCTV , etc, ,who are telling truth who are lying ? it depends, on different time, different things of different countries, they maybe justice to one thing but at the same time they can be injustice to another event, well,it is hard to make it clear,in fact ,most people in most country are following the voice of major medias without knowing the fact ,if you really want to konw the truths, you should pay more attention to this differences and this justice &injustice Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 4101 Msg: #4 122 days ago, June 12th 2008 | Would you give examples to support your points, Medieval. | Give at least one example of what the above mentioned media lied about or hid. Would you give an example of how we follow what the media says about China, rather than following the truth. How is a visit to China going to show us the real truth?
