Hello,

I will go to Indonesia from Singapore - soon (around 25.6.) and one of my dream is try/learn surfing. I never did it before, but I guess it should be fun, I'm snowboarding more than 10 years, is there something like good season for surfing, or it is OK during all the year? Do you have any good, nice and cheap place where I can stay in bungalow and take (if it is necessary, I dont know) surfing course? Friend told me cheap and nice place is Sumatra, but I don't know exact location, I am also thinking about Bali.

I have no air tickets yet, but I will buy from Tiger Airways (From Singapore to Padang cost return ticket 60 EUR, which is OK)...

If someone want to join my journey, every cool person is welcome :)

Hi Nonon,

thanks for fast reply, also recommendation for Indo Surf book, it is worth of buy, for sure. Also I was on sumatransurfariis before (found on google), but it seems they make business only for rich people, not backpackers.

Thank you.

There are plenty of charter boat companies to take you surfing along the west coast of Sumatra or just travel to the islands yourself via ferry like Mentawai or Nias.

Check out this page for some other locations in Sumatra and links to the surfing companies:

thanks for help guys, I already was in Bali - Kuta beach is OK for begginers, I take 2 hours begginer lessons for 100.000 rupiah from one young guy on beach, now I can stand up and keep balance on big board - I already surf about 20 metres. It is quite easy for me, it is only about training...
