| I've got 45 days to see Europe, traveling alone, advice on how much I should plan. | ||||||||||||||||||

How much really should I plan ahead and how much should I leave to the moment? I have a rail pass and it seems like all the right equipment, so any other advice to the lone female would be much appreciated. Oh, and I plan to stay mainly in Western Europe, how long does it take to get from say, France to Greece? Also a friend advised to book a final hotel and send packages there way so you can just get an extra bag and check it? How well does that work out? | [Edited: 05:20 - rachkb ] Mell Mel Fla Post Count: 3316 Msg: #2 77 days ago, June 4th 2008 | Hello Rachel :) | Yes, it is wise to have the first couple of hostels booked for those months. Many of them fill up. Book all hostels a few days in advance. If you have a rail pass then you can take on a night train if there is no accomodation available. Western Europe is safe for women to travel in. That said, incidents happen so be as careful as you would in your own town. I dont see why you need to have packages sent. For 45 days in Summer time you wont need to take so much with you. If you want to have things sent to you, then you could use a poste restante. This is a service which many post offices in Europe provide. You can have mail sent to them for you and then you show you passport when you want to pick it up. This service does not cost anything. At least this is how it was when I last used it. Paris to Athens would take around 30 hours by train.
