It's our first time backpacking, so any help would be much appreciated! I also really want to go kayaking or horse riding somewhere, if anyone has any ideas?! However there is yet another option but you have to book in advance. These are apartments that usually are more affordable than a hotel and still give you intimate and comfortable stay. I know two good websites to check <snip>(Krakow only) or www.apartments4u.pl (krakow + other cities). I used similar option when stayed in Rome and Paris, no regrets, recommended. I have some good friends in both and is worth a visit! Dont forget to try some home made Rakia, accompanied with a shopska salad! SLOVAKIA - Banska Bystrica, is a city that was born into beauty during the middle ages, situated on the hron river and surrounded by mountains! I have been here and its popular with winter and summer travellers, easy accessible to the mountains and the gateway to Slovakia! - Obviously Bratislava is a great place, its easily seeable in 2 days and with great access to Vienna its a perfect base. Why not take the boat from Bratislava to Vienna for the day! Good trip!! POLAND - When we did our trip, we got the night train from Bratislava to Krakow(Poland) it takes about 9 hours, saves on a hostel for the night and not a bad way to travel. Krakow - My favourite city! I have visited Krakow 7+ times, My ex-Girlfriend lived there and I have lots of good friends there! Its a city that is great for history, great for relaxing and just 'people watching' in Rynek (Market Square). To eat take your pick...there is many fantastic traditional restaurants.....one favourite of mine is located on ul. Florianska (its a street off the main square) and is called Zlota Pipa (The gloden Pipe- is the nearest translation) fantastic food/drink and ambience. .......I have just realised how much I have written so far, and im still not finished (I have travelled alot in Poland so if you want some more info on any let me know! I dont want to bore you any more!!! Ha ha!! (I have lived in Prague for a little while if you plan on visiting) Take care and happy travelling! We went to lake Balaton which was lovely. We had a one-week trip in Budapest. We stayed in a hotel near to the Western Railway Station, called Easy Hotel, here: http://uk.video.yahoo.com/watch/3049615/8703000 I liked it because it was almost in the city centre. We found this hotel about a funny advert:) My husband and I only had to pay 15 €/night for two of us! I think it was very cheap. We also liked the food, and it was cheap too, and the people were nice! So i think a trip in Budapest is affordable, and it worths because of the amazing sights!
