Big Sur camping

As part of my RTW trip, I am planning on doing a week from San Francisco to LA via Big Sur (Highway1).
There are a lot of camping places on this segment and I was wondering if it would be worth camping as there don't seem to be many hostels.
I won't have a tent with me so are these available at the sites?

I am not aware of any campsites which provides tents. However, you can consider buying one from walmart or target.. it will cost you around $30+.. I think if any campground provides you a tent, it might cost you the same!

Check out Big Sur Camping for camp ground listing.

I could probably buy a tent and sleeping bag? How much do you think this would be? Bearing in mind I'll be there in September so should be warm enough.
I think it might be a better way to experience California than staying in motels/B&B's plus the parks should be quite cool?
Then I can just ditch the tent and sleeping bag in LA as I go off on the rest of the RTW ?

Yep... Sounds like a plan to me!
Coastal area might be a bit cold... however, noway below zero... may be around 10-20 C.
Sleeping bag would cost you around $14-20... If you want warmer, then probably $30.
I hope you are renting a car; as big sur has minimal public transportation.

Yes, car from SF.
Any other camping tools and I can probably just buy on route such as food, disposable BBQ, etc.?
