My husband and I are planning a trip to Naples and the amalfi coast region in August/Dept this year, we will be there for 5 nights, can anyone suggest the best way to spend these days and where to visit?

Sorrento is the most popular location. The beach is nothing to write home about, but the town is a McStarBKFC-free zone. From Naples you get the Circumvesuviana train all the way round the bay. It goes though Ercolana (where the ruins of Herculaneum are) and Pompeii. If your flight is to Naples you'll find that there may be a connecting bus direct to Sorrento. From Sorrento, the island of Capri can be done as a day trip.

The amalfi can be very busy. I've been looking into a trip next year and have been checking out tour operators so that they can have all the details worked out for me.
This is one company that I am considering. They might have some useful information for you: http://www.ciaotours.com/campania/campania.htm
I hear it is beautiful. Have a great time.

I would HIGHLY recommend Positano-even if its just a day trip. Its just a bus ride away from Naples. Its breathtaking and the most romantic place in Italy (I think). Capri is nice too, but Positano will take your breath away.
