He could not go to school and became a cook for trekking agencies. But his eyes kept focused on the highest peaks that stood around his birthplace. His secret dream : to become a mountain guide and climb the Everest. | But in Nepal, only Sherpa people can achieve this kind of dream. And Isu was not a Sherpa, but a Kulung. Because of this and of what he himself calls his poor education, he thought he would be a cook for the rest of his life. But one day, touched by his kindness, a group of trekkers from Europe and US managed to convince him that everything was possible. Isu started learning English and went on a mountain guide school in Kathmandu. He could afford the first two years and went on expeditions as an assistant. There, he surprised the Serpas when he so easily made it up to 8000 m. His dreams were coming true. He still has to go for the last two years of mountain guide school. Now, he's become a trekking guide and he is the one my friends and I chose for our second trek in Nepal, in the Manaslu area. We spent three fabulous weeks with him and his staff, all friends and cousins. Harmony, attention, smiles... these are some words that come to my mind when I think of these days. Of course, there is a lot of advice on this or that guide or agency on the web. But mentioning his name and address is the minimum I can do for this fabulous man : <snip> [Edited: 19:16 - Mell - Posting email addresses is against the forum rules.
