Any itinerary suggestions for backpacking through southeast Asia?

I\'m planning on traveling through south east asia for at least 2 weeks (probably 3) at the end of August begining of September.

Any itinerary suggestions?
As a mexican national traveling from New York, are there any visa requirements that I should look into prior to my arrival?

I would like to visit Cambodia, Laos, Tahiland, Vietnam, China maybe? I have a list of famous cities in each country but have no idea if traveling from one country to another is as easy as taking a train - I have backpacked through Europe and it\'s the eastiest thing!

Do you guys have any tips, suggestions or comments?

Thanks,

Heche

Hello Hector :)

I moved this to the Asia forum.
Yes, I think you will need a visa for Cambodia, Laos, vietnam and China. Most people do. I would get the Chinese one from a Chinese consulate before you go. It is generally straight forward. There are a few complications with getting visas until the end of the Olympic games. Hopefully for visas for after the games things will be as usual(without the Olympic Games visa complications).

As far as I understand from the following link, you as a Mexican citizen can have a 90 days visa exemption for Thailand.
LIST OF COUNTRIES WHICH HAVE CONCLUDED AGREEMENTS ON THE EXEMPTION OF VISA REQUIREMENTS WITH THAILAND

I suggest you get a copy of the Lonely Planet guide for SE Asia. It includes Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand so well worth getting. It also has suggested intineries, and information about other things such as accomodation, transport, visas, money, safety... It costs around 30 Euros and is available in most book shops around the world.
There is also a separate Lonely Planet guide available for China.
