I'll go to China in August 2008 starting from Xinjiang and trought the countries of Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan until Beijiing. Organised tours and visits are well looked after and all the people I met are friendly to foreigners like almost every where else in China. However - I have just abandoned my travel in Xingjiang and would advise against going there - outside of a travel group - because of the restrictions on which hotel you can stay at and places that you cannot visit. Better to go almost anywhere else in China where the fantastic experience is not soured by these things.
