hi am new to this travel stuff, not sure how to edit a previous post so will do a new one. Travelled to vietnam previously alone and coming back in late october spending 4-5 days at diec giac orphanage district 2, staying dist.1. From then on into cambodia by bus?? mainly interested in culture/dance/fitness/people. From then on not sure about the next leg. I feel thailand may be a similar to vietnam only a little glossier, cambodia is a definite then laos and onto hanoi/sapa, have 4 - 5 weeks, would be grateful for people\'s opinions on what routes to take and any advice to do\'s don\'ts, advice on mid range hotels, any places to avoid, will be travelling alone, what could i fit in in this time, i assume could skip laos, go to hanoi then onto sapa, festival time in November, will i be needing to book accommodation beforehand due to this. Thanks everyone Subscribe?

Don't skip Laos!!! I nearly did that, and it's a beautiful country - I liked it best out of all the se Asian countries I visited - it's really worth visiting, especially Luang Prabang, and the mountain scenery is lovely across the country, as are the people. I went Thailand/Laos/Vietnam/Cambodia so a lot of the routes would be different to what you're taking I think; we took a bus from Ho Chi Minh into Phonm Penh, and they sorted out our visas from the bus, we just had to hand our passports in at the border and then wait, it was fine. From Phonm Penh you can take another bus to Siem Reap. And you can take a bus from Siem Reap into Thailand. I'm not sure where you'd want to fit in Laos, if you go from Thailand, you can get a boat across from Chiang Kong, then a 2 day boat trip will take you to Luang Prabang. If you go from Vietnam, I think you can get buses from Hanoi to Vientiane (I flew from Vientiane to Hanoi)

I'd definitely recommend Sapa, we did a 2/3 day tour through a company called the Kangaroo cafe, which was great, you go from Hanoi and return to Hanoi on overnight trains. Can't remember the cost, but you get to stay in a nice hotel surrounded by mountains.

Vietnam is already becoming quite touristy as you know - Thailand is more so but is more chilled out, people don't really hassle you in the way they do in Vietnam, but the main places in Thailand are full of westerners - still, it's a good country to visit anyway, Sukothai, Ayutthaya, the River Kwai and Bangkok are all worthwhile. I think north of Bangkok up to Chiang Mai, which includes all these places, is a nice route. The Thai islands are all very very touristy - nice places, but it's not the same experience of Thailand that you get inland.

thanks so much my plan would be like you said bus into phnom penh, or vice versa, siam reap, maybe skip thailand into laos from camboida and out of laos into hanoi sapa, am wondering how would i get from laos to hanoi/sapa, will only have 3 weeks as the first 4-7 days will be spent in an the orphanage.

Do you know anything about a 3 way air ticket. Thanks for your input debbie.

Can you go overland from laos into hanoi, how much is a flight from luang prabang to hanoi, am not computer literate, just new to all of this.

Am not really interested in touristy/western stuff, like to find out about the people culture, thanks your time.

Not sure about flights from Luang Prabang to Hanoi; as far as I remember the flight from Vientiane to Hanoi was I think about $40 or something - we only booked a couple of days before going so you could probably get a better deal if you book more in advance, I would think the cost is about the same from Luang Prabang (if there's an airport there? - not sure). I don't really know about 3 way tickets but in Asia you seem to be able to book anything so I'm sure it's possible! if you go on to google and search under 'flights south east asia' you'll probably come up with some airline sites that can help
