This weekend we decided to venture west and visit the beautiful Pembrokshire Coastal Path. Basically they have established a 186 mile walking trail in the South West corner of Wales which hugs the coast line all the way. Being the 9-5 slaves we now are, we ventured off on Friday night, Jason catching the train from Newport to Bridgend while Kirstyn frantically purchased an entire camping get-up for the weekend! We made it across to Freshwater East a little after 8 and suprisingly managed to erect our unseen tent in the dark without too much hassle. It was great to be back out camping again enjoying some basic camp food on our new, cheap imitation trangia, as well as a drop of beer and vino! The next morning after a hearty brekkie we walked down to ... read more

As the weeks in Scotland continue to roll by we our all settling in nicely. Something about the pervasive culture of drinking has forced me to consume more than what might be considered healthy, but isn’t that what these cross-cultural experiences are all about it. Even Camille is along for the ride. When she was asked for her rhyming words this week, she replied “beer-near and wine-fine.” She also lost her silver matchbox car this week and when asked where she might have left it, the answer was “at the local”. The local is the term used for your neighborhood pub. Yes I know; we are wonderful parents! After work on Friday I met Elizabeth at a friend’s flat in downtown Glasgow. We had a nice time visiting and planning our Thanksgiving menu. While I am ... read more

"They" (does anybody really know them?) say that first impressions are lasting. And we subscribed to that theory. So when this little uninhabited dry, barren and blasted rock crept on the right side of the Transavia plane, we almost freaked. The island had a reddish color and not a single tree. Now, having just come from cold Holland, we surely would appreciate some warmth and sunshine but never did we envisage a place so hot that you could see the vapours ripple from above. The pilot landed just past the uninhabited island and the flight attendant (to be politically correct) threw open the doors. We stepped out to face Niko Kazantzakis Heraklion Airport and a super-heated blast of wind. Crete welcomed us warmly. The largest and most populous island of the Greek archipelago, Crete brims with ... read more

The prospect of going to England to see Andrew and Sue was exciting for us, as it had been almost twelve months since we said good-bye to them on Mallorca, and also because we had never before been to England, and were looking forward to greenery, clean air and blue skies! It was great to see Andrew’s smiling face when we at last got through customs at Heathrow when we arrived. Sue and her friend Christina were still in Cardiff, her graduation from Cardiff University having taken place the day before. Andrew drove us back to the house where he and Sue are renting a room from a young man who has a partner expecting a baby within a couple of months. They moved out into her place for the duration of our stay. The house ... read more

Yesterday we visited three museums in Amsterdam: the former Heineken brewery, the Rijksmuseum, and the Van Gogh museum. By the end of it all, my feet were way too sore to really care all that much about art. Three in one day was not a good idea. I wanted to take a picture on the train of the stinkiest bathroom ever, but neither Erin nor Ben were brave enough to go back for seconds. We arrived in Brussels at 1:00. And, yes, constant readers, it's true: the Muscles from Brussels is no where to be found. However, we did find everything else in the city. Check-in is officially at 4:00, but we were allowed to check in early. We dumped our stuff, and headed out. The reception area closes between 1:00 and 4:00 for cleaning, and ... read more

Today was not a bad day. Nothing too adventuresome (sp?) happened. Cassie and I went to the main square for pictures today and received a pleasent little surprise. The whole square was turned into a market. They had everything you would need there. There was everything from fruits and vegetables to hats and scarves to even large rabbits. Cassie and I hoped that they were for pets and not for eating, but let's be honest. . . We picked up a rug for the room, Lord knows it needs some form of color in here besides our bedding. When we came back we had the idea of going to the supermarket for some much needed food, like the beloved Qwex cereal - seriously, one of the best things ever. But that never happened because Cassie was ... read more

Hello!!! I’m back again, believe it or not, and I actually went out today and did some fun and exciting things! I also remembered to bring my camera this time so I have WAY too many pictures to post right now. I will post as many as I can right now, and maybe more later if I think of it, and if I have more fun ones to put up. In the mean time, let me fill you in on what I’ve been up to! This morning my roommates and I went out to this walking street called Vaci Utca I believe….it may be “Ut”…or something else. But I know the street is actually called Vaci, so we’ll stick with that for now. Vaci is basically a bunch of great stores where people are tempted to ... read more
