Just a note on the hike I talked about yesterday. Their are about 668 "official" stairs up Stoltzekleiven. However, there may be over 700 depending on how you count them!! Looks like I will just have to count them myself. I may need a bit of rest first, as I am still sore from yesterday. Farvel, Allison... read more

SING WITH ME..."I'm leaving on a fast train, don't know when i'll be back again". Its really sad that i'm leaving today, or at least INTEND to leave. ive had so much fun with my friends here. it was really great to see them again, and to make some new friends as well. Its one of those cosmic twists of fate that allowed me to make this pilgrimage. to bring the saga of cristain and i full circle, and to begin a new chapter. i wish very much to return here. but for now, i have other fish to fry. "the fats in the fire" HST So, i went out with my friends last night, had a few drinks, made some new friends, fredorico and cristian2 (appearently my reputation preceded me). said a difficult goodbye to ... read more

After 2 days sailing past the North African Coast of Tunisia, Algeria & Morocco, we arrived at Malaga, Spain on the 20th of May. We had a half day tour scheduled which turned out to be terrific. First stop was the Castillo de Gibralfaro which means Castle of the Lighthouse Rock which overlooks the city and gave us some great views and photo opts. Next we hit the Bull Ring and Museum and got a history lesson on bull fighting past and present. We were amazed at the costs of the sport today. Bull Fighters can get paid over 100,000 Euro for one fight and it costs over 100 Euro for a seat. Next we got to tour the famous Cathedral of Malaga which was as beautiful as the one we saw in Valletta. Our last ... read more

Last Sunday I decided to go exploring in City Center (what Dubliners refer to as downtown). It was a gorgeous day, and I couldn't wait to just be in this place without having to be somewhere. I wanted to go there alone, with my camera and music, to just take the scene in. I spent a few hours people watching/shopping/walking and taking pictures. It was a great day--I love to do things on my own and I'm thankful for my independence. It can also be a bad thing, but in new situations like these I thrive on being on my own, not sure why. I found a cool vendor in the temple bar area that was selling all types of old books amongst other odd things so I stopped by to have a look. I ended ... read more

Venice (5.12.08 - 5.15.08) Jumped on the train, feels good to be moving again. I love train travel. I could just tour all over Europe and stop for a night or two in different places. Heading towards Florence now. A bit about Venice - the train goes right onto the island and that last bit going across the water feels like the north New Orleans area; mostly water and some oil refinery looking facilities. Venice is a classic post card, everywhere feels like you’re there. Seldom does every aspect of a place speak the character of that place. Mostly a place for old folks and couples. I didn’t meet any travelers or locals and felt quite lonely. I did meet my mom the second day and stayed with them in their villa on a small plaza. ... read more

Hola! Well I finally got to Madrid late Sunday night..We switched flights in London--and our British Air flight ended up being an hour late to London from Dulles so my friend Bridget and I had to sprint across the airport ( I literally took off my shoes to run ) and we had to switch terminals AND go through security again in the new terminal and only had 30 MINUTES till our flight took off! They held the plane for us so we made it, unfortunately our luggage did not... So I finally got my luggage LATE last night(monday) after fighting with Iberia for about 2 hours. They delivered it to my casa here. We live with our madre and her daughter who is 15. We lucked out and have wireless in our apartment!! We are ... read more

If anyone is looking for pure indulgence, good food and great hospitality go to Elounda Bay in Crete. I've just come from staying at the Peninsula Suites at Elounda but for those that find this too expensive (luckily I wasn't paying) they own two other resorts very near each other (one actually next door). Their Spa Centre is amazing, a huge range of treatments offered, something for everyone. This time of year had perfect weather for us to enjoy. There are culture excursions for those that do not wish to soak up the sun all day - Palace of Knossos which is from Elounda about 1hr away or take a boat to Spinalonga Island - a island famous because of the leper colony which was there until 1957. The boat ride itself was lovely and to ... read more
