After navigating the Italian train system, we finally arrived at Manarola, on of the five villages on the Ligurian coast comprising ‘Cinque Terre’. Connected by walking paths, the five fishing villages are devoid of cars and are beautifully situated among the terraces of lemon and olive groves. Here we met many other interesting backpackers, had a lovely hike and ate amazing fresh pasta. The cook was from the neighboring village of Corniglia, and though the measurements seemed unclear even to him, we managed to put together a list of ingredients to the delicious sauces, which we recommend trying at home.

Pesto- which the region is known for
Basil, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, finely crushed walnut, grated cheese, pine nuts, finely crushed peanut, butter, margarine, sunflower oil, salt

Walnut Sauce- Unexpectedly sweet and fresh
Crushed walnuts, extra virgin olive oil, bread, milk, grated cheese, crushed cashew, butter, margarine, sunflower oil, salt
