We left our mansion at the Holloway University after a big breakfast on the day that we would meet our first billets of the tour. We had a fair bit of sightseeing to do first and this included a trip to Windsor Castle. Once we found how to get in, and subsequently bought 32 tickets we entered the Queen’s residence and it was a sight not many of the boys had seen before with the size and structure of the buildings being amazing.
After lots of photos with a beefeater we wandered the grounds and returned at 11 o’clock for the changing of the guard. This was good for the first 5 minutes, but by the half hour mark it was beginning to test our patience. Jacob Sullivan was intently listening to the marching band, saying that it would be Mr. Palmada’s dream to have one of that quality at St. Paul’s.
We quickly got back on the bus ready for what would surely be a highlight of the tour. A guided tour around Twickenham, the world’s most famous rugby stadium. We went to the top row of the stadium, had a look at the “Nike” corporate box, sat in the royal box, inspected the changing rooms and finally ran out through the tunnel into the 85,000 capacity stadium.
Obviously a trip to the official shop was needed and the boys purchased many British Lions tops, shorts, and general merchandise.
We had to push on however and drove down to Petersfield to our second school, Churchers College.
When we arrived we quickly dumped our oversize cricket bags in the pavilion, met up with our families and then dispersed for the night.
