After going to Glasgow and visiting Fiona in Ayre, I spent a few days in Edinburgh. Yet another beautiful city, and I am in love with the castle. I stayed within the Old Town and was fascinated by the creepy stories, so I did a "City of the Dead" tour... was a little disappointed that I didn't experience any supernatural phenomenon, but I did have an unusual thing happening with my watch- it would lose an hour every evening, can't explain it, as my watch is now working fine. I certainly gave the pavement a battering- walked to New Town, to Holyrood Park, to Carlton Hill and visited the Castle all in one day! Ouch. Also did a tour of the Scottish Highlands- went to Loch Ness... didn't see Nessy... but the lake sure is black! Also saw Loch Lochy, Ben Nevis, Fort Augustus and Glencoe... all absolutely stunning!!!
Then travelled down to Liverpool, Europe's City of Culture for 2008. It reminded me a little of Dandenong in parts- what with the industrial areas. Did a cruise on the Mersey Ferry, which gave nice views of Liverpool and surrounds. Then went totally Beatles crazy!!! Did the Magical Mystery Tour and
also The Beatles Story. T'was fun. Saw the places where the members of The Beatles grew up, Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane, and also went to the Cavern Club in Matthew Street.
After Liverpool, I headed back to London. Having been in London a few times now, I wanted to see what was nearby... so Alicia (a friend from the Paddywagon tour) and I decide to jump on a train and head to the beachside town of Brighton. It was a joyous day! We just relaxed along the pebbled beach (pebbles really aren't that bad- no sand everywhere, which is a nice change.) I also discovered the refreshing taste of Pimms (no, I am NOT an alcoholic- John, I know you're thinking of something smart to say! :P ) Also saw the Pavillion, which is a lovely building of Indian architecture set within some pretty gardens.
(Silly me ran out of time to upload the photos, so will do so when I next in London. I am currently in Switzerland, and will post another blog on this soon. And as usual, please excuse any spelling mistakes.)
