Days 1 & 2 (I think)
Pat & I arrived in Rome about mid-day Sunday. The Singapore Airlines plane should have got here about 3 hours earlier but an undercarriage malfunction on the original plane saw us take 2 security checks at two different terminals in Singapore.
We were met as planned by a driver who took us to the city - very quickly. At stages, on a 110km motorway not an autostrada were hitting 145 -150 km. Didn't tell Dave as we spoke on the mobile on the way.
The hotel (Hotel Golden) is quite good. On the second floor and reached using a very old lift. It's one of those that you can see through a heavy metal mesh and it has two doors which swing in and out.
The very friendly, obliging manager Giuseppe, told us what was what and gave us good viewing and eating advice.
At about 12 noon, after a shower, we took of for a walk, planning to visit the Spanish Steps. Pat also had in mind some "expensive" shopping at the Burberry shop. (bought a cashmere scarf.)
On the way we came across some large sort of
Folk Music PerformersAccidentally came across this festival in a park between our hotel and the Spanish Steps in Rome.
festival with exhibitor marquees etc and several performance stages. Very interesting.
Rome's Spanish StepsThis was Sunday and the thousand or so who hadn't joined the tens-of-thousands lined up for free entry into the Sistine Chapel, were here at the Spanish Steps.
