The morning of the 4th of July Sophie and I woke up in Barcelona forgetting the fireworks and hotdogs celebration back at home, hopped on the Metro to Estacio Sants to get on the early morning train headed towards Burgos. We dressed ready for hiking but wouldn’t do much more than sitting for the next 8 hours on the train. We found ourselves surrounded by 2 dozen adolescents on their way to a camping trip also in Burgos. After spending 5 hours amongst the childrens squeals, shrieks, and cries for attention from one another, Soph and I decided it was enough, grabbed our bags in search for other seats. Once we realized that the rest of our former car had also abandoned their seats and later occupied the remaining available seats. Begrudgingly, we decided it better to sit on the floor in between cars than be surrounded by hormone driven teens. Sorry.
We finally arrived to Burgos meeting with Brett, who we deemed the “Camino Mom” as she greeted us making turkey sandwiches for lunch. She led us to our first “albergue” a sweet, camp-like cabin surrounded by a town park with gardens, fountains, trees and all. “Please, have a

seat.” The host greeted us, mistaking us for people who had been walking for the day despite our lack of a single drop of sweat on a bleedingly hot day.
We spent the rest of the day checking out Burgos and freaking out for the trip we had ahead of us. I really don’t know how many times I thought to myself, “I wish it were already tomorrow morning.”
We lied down for bed at about sunset, 9 or so, to be soon surrounded by other walkers. “Continuo, o no continuo?” “Chin, chin!!!!” “JAJAAJA!” We were a bit peeved but realized it was the beginning of comunal living and we held our toungues. We later became friends with them!
I'm going to do my best to make an entry for everyday of the Camino I promise..
