Our free day in Rome proved to be an eventful one. The three of us planned ahead of time what we wanted to see. Wake up was early squirrelly this morning. 5:30 am. Breakfast was probably my least favorite so far. And coming from me, that’s saying a lot. We boarded the bus and left at 7:00 sharp. Brek was sure to leave on the dot. We ended up leaving Shelley behind. She ended up catching up later. Pat drove us down to the train station, where we all got on one train car. All eyes were on Brek, since no one knew exactly how to get where we were going. Then we got off the train, and headed for the metro. I have to say, I prefer London’s subway system much better than Rome’s. We ... read more

Hey everyone! Today is our last day in Rome and we will be leaving for Barcelona Spain tonite by plane! We had a lot of fun in Venice and Rome, Italy. We took an overnight train to Venice from Paris and boy did that suck! We were going to do the same thing from barcelona to paris but we changed our minds and are now going to take the day train and spend an extra night in paris. Luckily for us though we had some really nice couchette mates who brought wine and scrabble to share with everyone. And Dave won the scrabble game by 3 points and i was shortly behind him. In Venice we got to go to the island of Murano to check out all the cool glass! The boat ride there was ... read more

The last day in Rome was very uneventful. I walked around and saw the remaining sites like the Vatican Mueseums, Sistine Chapel, and a few randoms around the city. I basically relaxed at various points, listened to some music, and waited to meet Dan and Julie at 2:30 on the North Side of the Coloseum. We spent the day touring the city and we went in the colosseum. I officially started an obsession with gelati (italian ice cream), and then went out to dinner and had a nice chill night. My hostel for my last night was a great location, but no one, including the check-in people could speak english. I somehow managed to get in, and check out with no problems, but it was not easy. I could easily do Spanish, and even some French... ... read more

Today we got up, checked out of the Village Roma, and headed for our first hotel. Heather’s parents (who I cannot thank enough) were nice enough to help us get some hotels while we are here to ease the stress of doing all hostels. As great as its been to be in hostels, hotels are more relaxing and safe, which makes seeing the sites a lot simpler. After today we are back in hostels for the next 7 days. I cannot believe we are 11 days into our trip. We are in our 7th city, 6th country, 4th language, and the money is so dwindling. Its hard to take it all in, and realize where we are, what we’re doing, and what we’re seeing. We took the metro up to the Vatican stop, and decided to ... read more

Like I said before. We headed down to the Vatican today with our new friends Jon and Steph. Jon was one of the 100000 Canadians we met on this trip. They are taking over the continent. Steph is a girl from North California. They were nice to walk around with for the day, so we invited them along. First we headed to the Vatican at about 10:30 am, and man was it beautiful. The Vatican was breathtaking, and was by far our favorite part of the whole city of Rome. The architecture and art of the city, plus its history, make it a place you cannot miss out on. But the Vatican is beyond words. First we explored all of Saint Peter’s Square, then headed over to the line to get up in the dome. After ... read more

We took an overnight train last night and shared a car with 2 South Koreans and an italian. Everyone was 22, and we had some awesome conversation about what everyone thinks about the US. Also, as we have been here 9 days, 6 countries, and 4 launguages, we have realized one thing. Europe is Under Construction. You would think they are just building the place with everything under construction. I swear, you cannot go 5 minutes without seeing a major construction project. Not many of the great sites have been, but today some were. The Spanish Steps in Rome were being worked on, so they were not much to see. We saw the Colloseum, the Palatine, Circus Maximus, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and a bunch of the other famous sites in Old City. We are ... read more

To take advantage of our second spring break, a week off of class for La Feria de Abril, my friends and I made plans to go to Italy. It was amazing, of course, but also one of the most difficult weeks of our lives! We were just hit with so many unexpected challenges, making the trip not exactly less enjoyable, but just...challenging. I went to Italy with my 6 "best Spain friends." I'll introduce them briefly. Leshia: Is a K-State student! She and I met in Leadership Class our very first semester. We were acquaintances, but not really friends. We didn't plan to come to Sevilla together, it just so happened we chose the same city, but different programs. Through Leshia I got to know the people in her program and now we're all best friends. ... read more
