Owlthorpe and Lightwood
Published: November 7th 2005Europe » United Kingdom » England » South Yorkshire » SheffieldSunday is the day Alison and Peter go grocery shopping, so we tagged along to get some supplies we cant do without. Alison was to prepare a traditional English breakfast (brunch time) for Mick complete with black pudding. While we were shopping, Alison said she had ran in to Michael, one of the old farmhands we used to know when Grandad had the farm. Unfortunately Mick and I weren't with her then, we'd walked off on our own to do some investigating... We had completed the shopping and were relaxing back at home when who should come to the door but Michael's brother Stewart! Alison said she hadn't seen either of them for ages, and both on one day was very unusual. Stewart had a family matter to discuss with Alison and Peter, so Mick and ... read more
My first American visitor
Published: October 19th 2005Europe » United Kingdom » England » Oxfordshire » OxfordI am so excited! On Friday I got an email from my friend Jenny (who I've known for 10 years!!!) saying that she was in London. She has a cousin who lives in Central London and she was over here visiting him. They went to Paris and just came back. I'd sent her a postcard letting her know my new info and that I was actually moving. Didn't have a lot of notice, but equally, didn't have any plans for the weekend so it worked out well. I went into the City and we all ended up going to Oxford for the afternoon. When we left, the skies were clear (well, as clear as they ever really are) and the weather was warm enough that I didn't really need a coat. (I'm sure you can already ... read more
Lazy, lazy day!!
Published: October 11th 2005Europe » United Kingdom » England » Nottinghamshire » NottinghamSo I got up late, it's really become a bad habit and pattern due to the late nights out here. It's nutty I know. So the only thing that I really did today was go to ultimate practice. Other than that nothing really exciting happened....I did some homework and stayed home hanging out. That's about it.... read more

Ive been away to long...
Published: December 31st 2005Europe » United Kingdom » Scotland » Midlothian » EdinburghHis skin was like leather. He wore the tattered remains of what might have been a sleeping bag. His most distinguishing feature was 2 foot long, 1 foot wide matt of hair, resembling the tail of the North American Beaver. It is Unliukely that this particular Scot had ever seen a beaver, making the resemblance a phenomenon. 3 years ago in late July the man had approached three naive Canadian Tourists on the streets of Edinburgh to ask for spare change. He felt akin to the three because they two had terribly out style hair cuts. Today. . His beaver tail swayed happily in the light breeze, basking in the autumn sun. a fleeting glance. A passerby. A familiar face. It was him, The naive Canadian with the formerly awkward haircut. Fate had brought them together ... read more

Bdays & House Parties
Published: October 11th 2005Europe » United Kingdom » England » Nottinghamshire » NottinghamA very happy birthday to Leslie from UBC! She and I headed to Sains' this morning for some grub, a must. We picked up some cheesecake and had a mini celebration for her 20th birthday. The rest of the afternoon was spent talking and swapping stories with Leslie and one of her flatmates, Aylin. It was interesting to get different perspectives. Aylin is British but she basically grew up in Michigan and a bit in South Africa, so she has a fairly broad world view. After leaving to make myself some dinner, I got roped into going out to a house party. I was really reluctant to go but in the end I had a great time. However, meeting up with everyone was a bit of a challenge. I walked to Cavendish but no one was ... read more
Manchester
Published: November 4th 2005Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater Manchester » ManchesterWe caught the fast train from Munich back to Franfurt today, then a flight to Manchester. The Flight was a bit bumpy, and I was quite glad to get off! Our first glimps of Manchester was beneath the clouds, a bit rainy and overcast. After speeding through customs, and bearing in mind our flight was early, we got to arrivals and Alison and Peter weren't there!! "Oh no" we thought, but after finding the nearest toilets, they arrived and all was well. Ricky the dog was also there to pick us up, as he likes to plane spot! We had fish n chips for dinner, and Mick was asked if he wanted 'scraps' - which is the fallen off bits of batter in the oil, which they scoop out and give to people while they are ... read more
