13 days and I'm leaving on a jet plane again This adventure is almost over. Six months overseas has been a brillant success. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Although it has had it's ups and downs; I think every jobs has its successes and failures. THat's life. Here I am once again, going back to reality in a sense.. Back to my real home. Christmas is coming. So home is where the heart is eh? To give the best highlights of my travels here it goes: *Greece-- MYKONOS and scuba diving on Paradise beach. Staying with a friend of mine and getting smashed off of yaga! Did you know that the Tropicana bar plays the same music everynight but the peiple never notice cuz they usualy just stay for a couple of days. ... read more
Frisbee Xmas social!!
Published: January 23rd 2006Europe » United Kingdom » England » Nottinghamshire » NottinghamAhh the xmas social....so to start. 2 long tables, winter vegetable soup, a full turkey dinner, crumble desert and so much more! Jeffro sang a few songs (one absolutely hilarious one), we all got secret santa gifts (oh yes back to when I was 9 with the super soaker!), and then craziness ensued. Ange had an interesting and plagiarized speech from Nimble and everyone drank a lot of wine. The jelly contest: 5 teams of 5-6 had to eat an entire frisbee worth of jelly, with your face and the fastest time wins! My team: Tank (ie Tristan), Bryn, Rod, Dan, and a forgotten fifth (sorry!) We did pretty good, coming in second I think. It wasn't too bad and was actually a lot of fun. A lot of people that haven't been around in a ... read more
Worst lecture ever!
Published: January 23rd 2006Europe » United Kingdom » England » Nottinghamshire » NottinghamToday I had the worst lecture ever given , particularly on the topic of the Holocaust. The lecturer was really dry and seemed too emotionally attached to be able to detach herself and look at the material as a historian. Plus she kept making really broad claims that she said we could dispute with her but I'm sure half the class had noo idea what she was talking about. I did simply because I had taken a class or two on the Holocaust in depth last year, but in talking to other students about it they also completely missed what was going on and what she was actually getting at. She also refused to cover the topic of genocide. I mean the lecture was suppposed to be on how the Holocaust has shaped the post-war world ... read more
LONDON: SECOND DAY HIGHLIGHTS
Published: December 8th 2005Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater LondonIt's 6:30 in the morning here in London and I just returned to my hotel room from the end-of-tour Marillion concert and after-shows "festivities"! Thus, this will be a very brief update before I attempt to sleep for a few hours. Yesterday, I spent a couple of hours at the RAF Museum. It was excellent, but not quite as good as the Museum of Flight in Seattle. After a brief return to the hotel in order to change clothes, I headed out to Kentish Town and The Forum. My experiences at the soundcheck, concert, aftershow party, and post-aftershow birthday celebration will have to be written about in a future entry - when I've returned home and can type faster on a "real" keyboard! I must mention quickly that the night (and wee hours of this morning) ... read more

Our stopover in Singapore was a hoot - but thats another story. Another bonus is that our flight to Frankfurt has been delayed by and hour! I'm sooooooooo happy about that - NOT!!!!!! I took the "slow" train into London; a round-trip ticket on Southern cost £18 - 6 pounds less than the Gatwick Express. It made a couple of stops along the way (including Clapham Junction which I was familiar with from my previous visit). Total time to Victoria Station was about 45 minutes. By this time, I was hungry for some lunch (it was about 11:30) so I decided to eat at Victoria. Much of the old station is "open" to the outside with the various entrances and train tunnels; it being fairly cold and drafty, I started looking for an eatery that was enclosed so I could warm up some. I finally discovered the food court on the third level and had a chicken salad at KFC. That, and a small soda cost £3.79 - London ... read more
Real Excitement!!
Published: December 4th 2005Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » ThamesmeadHi Folks, Well just under 23 hours to go and I am really excited. I am currently staying at Peter & David,s place and we leave for the Heathrow Hotel this afternoon. Last minute things are going in the case and the weight of my case just, I repeat just!!complies to the 20Kgs. David's case is no where near as heavy as mine, that is possibly because the Australians know how to pack because they truely are seasoned travellers. Peter has kindly cooked us a farewell cooked breakfast with all the trimmings so we are well set up for the day. At 1.30pm Peter is driving us to Greenwich North station for the onward journey by train and tube to Heathrow. Well this will be the last journal before we fly, so farewell to Blighty!! Stay ... read more
