Great Britain, holds the history of once being the most powerful nation in the world. Although this status has long since passed, there are few areas of the country where evidence of this former glory are absent. Relics of an industrial past dot the landscape, and expansive stately homes display the profits reaped both at home and abroad.

Although famed for it's rain, the British climate is temperate, with mild winters and pleasant summers. The British countryside offers a taste of both the quaint and the unkempt, and provides opportunities for various outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing and pot-holing.

Britain's cities are vibrant and exciting, with long and diverse histories of development, historic buildings and stunning modern architecture.

Lovers and Friends alike, I have arrived in London, arrived to that wonderful person who decided to take me in for a night and also have seen quite a bit of the city. Although today's adventures were a bit frustrating, there actually was only one of them. I had to repack in the MSP airport because now for international flights you cannot take more than two bags over 50 lbs. each. Contrary to that, before it was customary to allow travelers two bags no more than 70 lbs each. And i thought i was pretty darn good packing only one bag [View Full Entry]

Rebecca has smuggled me into the Dundee U computer lab so we can check our e-mail for the first time in over a week. And what a week it has been... We arrived in Scotland stressed and tired. We made our series of trains, flights, and buses all within minutes of departure. Yes, we are certainly being divinely looked after. Rebecca had arranged for us to stay with the family of one of her Scottish friends throughout the Hogmanay festivities. So, for the first time during my journey I arrived at a the doorstep of a real home. In a real [View Full Entry]

Well it sure was an adventure getting to Metrogate. First, I had to take the train from Kingston to Wimbleton, then take the Underground, which really didn't run much of the time underground, to Edgar Court (?) switch and Take another underground to Gloucester Road and then walk about 8 blocks to Metrogate! Fun stuff... I tried to put a pic in here but it didn't work...so look for that in the next edition. Then Jacqueline and I explored Kensington a bit went to Kensington Gardens, and had lunch there. Tons of pigeons flocked to us, and i think it was [View Full Entry]

Incredibly, today is our last day in London and the last day of our European adventure. Today we tried to see “ the changing of the guard” at Buckingham Palace, only to discover it had been cancelled. Instead, we went to the Tower of London where we saw the Crown Jewels, the old torture chamber and dungeon, the Royal Armoury, Royal Chapel, the Beef Eaters and ravens. We had some free time for a rest or last minute souvenir/gift shopping this afternoon. Tonight we’ll have Indian for dinner before most of the group goes to the theatre again, this time to [View Full Entry]

Well it's just over a week until I set off and myself and young William have sat and after enjoying the start of Celeb BB (which we believe will be genius), drinking beers, delivered via a vist to the genuinely poorly Wheezy at Jimmy's, we have now set-up my blog. I now have the power to keep you informed of my antics. [View Full Entry]

Me and my Fiancé have handed in our notice with our current employers (Lloyds TSB), and are now getting ready for a round the world trip. We booked our tickets through STA Travel in Cardiff, South-Wales about 6 months ago. We purchased a "great escapade" ticket. We have plenty of partying left to do before we go though, and lots of goodbye's to say to everyone. Here's the itinerary:- - We start off by flying to Singapore for 2 weeks on the 30/01/2006. - We are then traveling over land to Phuket, Thailand for a 2 month stay in a Thai-Boxing [View Full Entry]

We travelled from Paris to London via the Eurostar, arriving in London just after 1:30pm. The group then had free time for the afternoon. Most chose to go shopping at Piccadilly Circus and Harrods. This evening, we had a special birthday party for Zac and Tegan. [View Full Entry]

I guess I don't want to blog about normal travel things. What I mean to say is that there are lots of travel sites and books that tell about the sites but I think blogging is about interpreting what I see through my filters or the way I see the world. A more personal account. Warning: the opinions expressed may be strong, inaccurate and offensive to some. And to some of you, that might be boring, but hopefully some people enjoy my perspective, and my politics. If you find it boring, I guess, either don't read it, or unsubscribe to the [View Full Entry]

In the evening, we went to visit Freedom Press Books, who claim to be the oldest Anarchist publisher in the world and who operate a bookstore, and to see a Squat in the east end of London. The east end is one of the poorer neighborhoods in London. The bookstore was hard to find, nestled between two buildings, down a narrow corridor, at the back entrance of the building. We followed the signs, up a flight of stairs to a cold room, in this old building. There was the usual selection of low production books on history, women's rights/issues, anarchism, education, [View Full Entry]
