Great Britain, holds the history of once being the most powerful nation in the world. Although this status has long since passed, there are few areas of the country where evidence of this former glory are absent. Relics of an industrial past dot the landscape, and expansive stately homes display the profits reaped both at home and abroad.

Although famed for it's rain, the British climate is temperate, with mild winters and pleasant summers. The British countryside offers a taste of both the quaint and the unkempt, and provides opportunities for various outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing and pot-holing.

Britain's cities are vibrant and exciting, with long and diverse histories of development, historic buildings and stunning modern architecture.

Well Since there are soo many pictures ot update you all with. Here are the first ones from the Chirstmas party we had at our house. As you can tell we really decorated. Our house still looks like a kindergarten art project. But hey we all did it by hand. Including the christmas tree made out of posterboard and the extremly long paper chain which reaches from the front hall to the top floor up three flights of stairs. Of course since this was the most decorated part of the house this is where we had our Party. A Party filled [View Full Entry]

Today I went on my first run/walk through Hyde Park. It wasn't an overly beautiful day by any means, overcast and wet out from it raining last night. But it was still very very enjoyable. I ran around this lake more towards my side then kept walking along some paths and eventually made a circle back to my flat. There were these little birds that I don't think I have ever seen before at home. They were medium size birds with these kinda longer legs, some had white faces and some more reddish beaks. I liked them a lot and will [View Full Entry]

The Preparation

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Derbyshire
Have spent the past three weeks wandering around my house, thinking about packing, wondering exactly how many pairs of 4 inch heels would be considered too many, regretting my insistence to spend some time in Singapore and Thailand before going to China. It's 27 degrees and thundery in Singapore. 30 and brilliant sunshine in Bangkok. And it's -4 and snowing in Xi'An. That's nice and easy to pack for. I think I'll opt for the layering option. The most challenging question I'm facing is: Will I have room for a hotwater bottle? I'm also struggling with which books and notes to [View Full Entry]

Slept in today! But I got up and checked my email, because my computer has oddly been working well the last two days! And I got some delta e-mails, and I just basically updated them all on my current situation. So, yea, didn't have class until 130, so I just stayed in and took care of housecleaning items, because I still had to put away my clothes from the weekend and plan out my up coming break. So, we'll see what happens with that. But I went to class. But after we were done with class, there wasn't much to do, [View Full Entry]

Like it or not - Soccer as Australians know it would begin to govern our lives
Settling in at Langdale has been made relatively easy by Mr.Patell, our Indian landlord. Mr.P as we’ve dubbed him, also owns the local corner store, which conveniently has a liquor license. We are quickly becoming his best clients. He promises to bring around a curry and in return we will cook him a traditional Aussie barbeque. Our body clocks have now adjusted to the time difference, and bouncing out of bed at 4 or 5am is now not as much of a problem. The weather is still extremely cold, although the Dooner purchases, or Duvell’s as they are strangely called over [View Full Entry]

Tuesday!

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » Kensington
I think Tuesdays are my favorite days here! I have the best class in the entire world. And we learn so much about Elizabethan Culture. It is so intriguing! And I am always pumped to get up early and go to this class. Then, I get done by noon and take a little time for myself to go exploring random places in London. Today, I did not venture as far as I usually do. I just went to the Natural History Museum. And Natural History is really not my forte nor interest, but hey, it's free anyways! But I did to [View Full Entry]

Just got loads of the last little things to sort out before i leave. I am finishing my job with the LEA this thursday and then i have a whole week to sort the last things out. I should really think about doing a few packs and then most probably taking half the things out that i put in my backpack. Eeek... [View Full Entry]

So we are now both living away from the Sherwins. We agreed today, on a delightful shopping trip to Sutton/Epsom that we miss the Sherwins. But freeloading is bad. Bo started work yesterday, and the poor dear is sick (and not allowed to come near me cos I dont want her cold!). But she said it was ok, heaps to learn cos its a restaurant and pub - lotsa different sized glasses and stuff. In the words of Bernard Fanning: 'Its not my kinda scene, oh yeah'. Two of the girls who live there are from Bendigo, one even worked for [View Full Entry]

This is Peter's home. It was amazingly warm everytime I went in there. He had a couple of birdfeeders outside his window and while we talked these amazing birds were flying around outside this windo... [more]
On one of the days traveling outside of London, we visited some people living in a communal way in a forest. When we got there they were having a birthday party and we hung out for the night and partied with them. A chili was cooked on an open fire, and other food was made. People drank, smoked and played music. At points there were four of us drumming, 2 Didgeridoos and other percussion instruments. It was really primal to be out in the open sky, with a full moon, a wood fire, and playing and hearing the music. This was [View Full Entry]

Father Christmas handing out the pressies!
Well ok we are not actually in Sunningdale (in Berkshire) but thought it would be the perfect place to locate this little round up all the stuff that has been going on since xmas, also it is the last place we were before we left the UK (booooo) and arrive in San Francisco (yay!), thought that it was time shared some of the most recent pics too. After xmas we both had to go back to work for a couple of days, but to be honest not sure how much work really got done, Liz did manage to get another very [View Full Entry]
