Well, another Christmas day over, and here are the photos to prove it. We went to Dads on Christmas eve for some pork he'd been saving for us, then for the turkey on Christmas day. Alex was working from 7 till 1, but he was in plenty of time for the feast. My friend Lynda turned up, with impeccable timing, bearing mince pies, just as Dad opened a bottle of fizz . The dinner was delicious, and after it had gone down a bit, we opened our presents and dozed a bit. Yesterday Alex and I went for a long walk with Bella in the forest, while Dad headed to Abermule to see Mum. This evening Sophie and the children are arriving from Glasgow, to give Tom some time to work in peace. That is a ... read more

On Thursday evening Ineke, Caroline, Alex and I set off for the Roman city of Chester, about an hours drive away. The was celebration of the Roman feast of Saturnalia which sounded like fun, and it certainly was a spectacle. I felt a bit sorry for the Romans in their sandals in the rain, but it looked as if they enjoyed themselves. Anyway, there were lots of lights and torches, crowds of people and a huge parade afterwards. Well worth going to see. And thanks to Alex for some photos.... read more

Well, that's probably every season and every day! But, it was wreath making time in Llangyniew, which meant that lots of bits and pieces had to be gathered from forest and garden. Luckily there'd been some wind through the woods a couple of weeks ago, bringing down some branches here and there, easy pickings for the foragers. And we had two beautiful blue sky and frosty days for collecting up what we needed. This morning Ineke, Lynda and I did a little guerrilla tree decorating in the woods for our dog walking friends. Everyone will now bring more decorations to hang on the branches as they pass, well that's what happened last year.... read more

A very quick blog or two as we have no internet and I'm borrowing my neighbours wifi. A couple of weeks ago I drove up to Glasgow with the dog, and we had a lovely time getting out and about in the Scottish autumn weather. Some photos....... read more

Caroline, Ineke and I spent a glorious day at Porthmadog on Friday. Caroline drove through spectacular scenery, we had a wander round and found a wonderful café for lunch. Then we went to the beach and didn't much want to come home. Last night, as the weather is still warm, we decided to have a barbecue. As it gets dark much earlier now, Ineke brought her new stove for its inaugural lighting. Later, two geocaching friends turned up - they had to make do with coffee as we'd eaten all the food.... read more

Well, the birthday went with a bang and I am now an official OAP. I've been totally spoiled with presents galore and loads of cards. My friend Hilary came to stay for a few days, and Lizzie drove up to join the celebrations. We enjoyed a beautiful day at the seaside, a delicious celebratory meal last night, and lots of dog walking in between. Wonderful.... read more

We were honoured to be asked to look after Martha and Jack for weekend while Sophie went to a wedding in London, though slightly anxious that we wouldnt come up to scratch. But we had a wonderful time, the kids were great (of course, how could I have thought otherwise), and Sophie enjoyed seeing friends in London. My friend Kate came on Saturday afternoon with her two grandchildren, which diverted Jack from the moment of Sophie's departure, and Ineke had Sunday off to help. We were all pleased to see Sophie back yesterday afternoon, I could feel the responsibility leaving me, and now they are back home in Glasgow, and its very, very quiet here. and tonight I shall sleep well and there will be tea in bed tomorrow!... read more
