This is probably my last blog entry for my trip...I thought I'd update you on my final week in Belize!
So I don't think any of us were all that willing to return to clinic after the great weekend in Caye Caulker, but once we got back, we got stuck into our final week of work. There were mobile clinics on Tuesday and Friday, and Hillside clinics on Wednesday and Friday as usual. We also went to talk to a traditional birth attendant in one of the villages on Wednesday which was very interesting. It has been really great to get to see patients by myself as part of the clinic work, and I have definitely got a lot more confident as a result - the experience hs definitely been worthwhile, and I am sad that it is over!
Apart from work, we also managed to fit in a few trips to the swimming pool at a local hotel, and some nice meals in town (lots of shrimp..). On Friday it was my birthday, so we packed up and left after clinic Friday morning, and spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool in town. We went out that evening for a meal, some rum, and some music by a local band. The restaurant brought me a slice of 'birthday pie', and the band made me stand up and sang Happy Birthday to me - very embarrassing but very nice of them! We then headed back to our friend's flat in Punta Gorda to stay the night there, and spent the next few hours listening to music and singing..I think we all had about 2 hours sleep in total, but it was good fun!
Time to go home the next morning, and the journey went smoothly if a little long - it was nice to finally arrive at Heathrow! So it's been a great trip, and I was sad to leave, although there have been a few definite advantages to being back (toast and honey, sleeping under a nice duvet without sweating all night, my birthday cake and cards to name just a few!). Now I'm sorting out my hundreds of photos and settling back into being at home!
I hope you've all enjoyed following the blog - it's been good to share my trip with you! xxx
