Went to Aberystwyth for a long weekend with Paola and Lisa.
Getting there isn't the easiest of journeys, roads in wales tend to be a little on the slow and twisty side.
Friday was our first full day, and we were blessed with a cloudless sky and brilliant sunshine, temperatures reaching around 75 degrees which is good for September :) We all decided to head for the beach and take advantage of the sun. So armed with factor 12 sun-cream we all headed off. Since it was Friday and most people were at work, we actually had a complete bay to ourselves....heaven :)) We also braved the water for a swim and to our surprise it wasn't too cold, so we had about an hour on the water. We had some visitors, well actually several thousand to be exact, a schoal of very small fish all wonderful pink/blues and greens shimmering in the afternoon sun all swam around us enveloping us all. We did get a little worried that maybe they saw us as protection against larger fish. But we quickly came to our senses and realised you don't get 'great whites' on the welsh coast lol.
The next day we headed off into the hills to do some trekking. I didn't realise it was quite so beautiful in this part of Wales. The wildlife was astonishing, apart from the common 'Buzzards' that you tend to see in most places these days, we saw some 'Red Kites' which were nearly extinct a few years ago but are now being slowly re-introduced with positive results. Even a Red Speckled Woodpecker revealed itself to us in the woods, now they are difficult to get a glimpse of.
I have rambled on enough, I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story. The only thing I forgot to mention was the Steam Train which takes you for 2 hour journeys through the countrside. I also for got to take a picture of the amazing specimen. Aberystwyth is worth a visit.
