World famous Cardiff Stadium
so famous I'd never heard of it until I'd arrived into town
Two days in Cardiff - it's good to be able to be in one place for more than just a night.
One of the girls in my dorm room has been living in London working as a nanny for the past couple of years and was down in Cardiff for a few days with her boss' Mercedes. Always useful having a car at your disposal, so we decided to go for a day trip out of Cardiff, joined by another Canadian girl in our room and an American she had met earlier.
First stop was a place called Caerphilly, with an awesome remote castle complete with moat and its own version of the leaning tower. After that, onto Carleon where we got hideously lost due to good old Welsh road signage (of which there is none). Carleon is supposedly the site of King Arthur's Round Table, but after driving around for a while with no sign of it, we jumped out for a picnic lunch by an old Roman Amphitheatre. Later, at the Carleon Information Centre (possibly would have made sense to ask around there first, but what would be the fun in that?) we learned that the amphitheatre
is also apparently the mysterious round table... well, it IS round, and I guess with a little imagination... ah nevermind, you had to be there.
After Carleon, onto Newport for a drink before the girls headed back home to London, me back to Cardiff and the Canadian on to some obscure little town in England.
Cardiff, incidentally, is the place I had my first shandy (shandi?). I still don't understand why no-one introduced this to me earlier? Way to make a cheap drunk an even cheaper drunk! It actually makes beer almost drinkable! Who'da thought?
Anyway, there's a castle in Cardiff I should also probably go check out. Bit of a rush before my bus leaves this afternoon, but ohwell, it'll be right.
