Down down down to the Underground... 28 May Update
Well after leaving London, we ended up staying overnight in a brilliant little hotel in Kenilworth (Milsoms Hotel) just out of Coventry– a highly recommend hotel.
Kenilworth is a very picturesque little town and the nearby Kenilworth castle is a fascinating visit. The castle has existed since the 1100s. Some of the graffiti scratched into the walls is historically significant in its own right as it goes back to the Victorian era!! The text is so neat!!
When visiting, free handheld electronic audio thimajigs (like small mobile phones) are handed out, and you simply bung in the number of the area you’re at (at the time) for a full and comprehensive rundown of what it was about – who was involved and who was doing what to whom at the time. Gives good insight into the various rulers, and later owners. The place was subsequently turned into a palace for the queen of England – quite a few moons ago. Big respect for the stonemasons of the day.
We checked out this morning and met up with Margie’s uncle Tom and cousin Joyce in Coventry before heading by train to Cardiff in Wales where

Our hosts in London, Bob and Rita Lague. we are at present. We overlooked the fact that this weekend is Bank Holiday weekend in England so it’s a long weekend!! No big problem unless trying to book quaint village accommodation. EVERYTHING IS BOOKED. So we reside in a strange hotel built on a minimalist theme, called the “Bigsleephotel”. We’ve decided it doesn’t fit our idea of English (nor Welsh) accommodation preferences. We’re here for 2 nights. Cardiff itself looks interesting and we’ll have a busy day tomorrow. The journey from Coventry to here took us through some incredibly beautiful country.
That’s it for now – I’m hitting the minimalist bed in this minimalist room. Margie and Kate are pushing out the zzzs already.
Bill.
