Off to the great rugby nation Wales today, it rained of course, it had to happen, with virtually no rain on the trip so far it was only a matter of time. Using the main motorway for the first time this trip it took little time to reach the mighty Severn River, coming around this bend we saw this huge bridge structure and looking to the right we saw its twin some 7-8 miles up river. to wales just to say we had been there but we found this fantastic old castle call Caerphilly Castle, built around 1300 originally to defend Wales from the hordes from Scotland and England but was never really put to the test as around 1644 during the Civil war between the Parliamentarians and the Royalists they went and gave up and ... read more
THE LOVELY CAERPHILLY CASTLE.
Published: August 29th 2010Europe » United Kingdom » Wales » CaerphillyHi Friends and Family! Today, we left Cardiff in order to get to our next destination: The Brecons! As many of you know, I am a very great lover of using local transport however, in coming to Wales, I chose to go to small obscure places in the middle of no-where and thereby reducing the possibilities of actually getting there! Especially on the weekends. The castle itself however is not very comfortable and was only used as a fort not as a ... read more
Walking I’m just back from a very interesting weekend in Wales. I walked in the mountains and explored the valleys. I went with my company’s walking club. I’ve never been away with them before so everyone was a stranger. The club had hired a bunkhouse in the village of Talybont-on-Usk to the north of the Brecon Beacons National Park. I decided to take Monday off work in addition to the weekend to go and explore “The Valleys” of South Wales, an area which I do not know, but have a slight connection to. The journey from London was a long one in driving rain, punctuated by a long detour past a blocked road on the way to Abergavenny following a local, driving fast along the narrow roads. But I arrived ten minutes before closing time! The ... read more
