The building housing the Regent House Hotel was built in 1805 by the architect William Burn who also designed many houses in Forth Street and a number of Georgian and Palladian houses in the countryside. During the Victorian times it was run as a sea-captains' house while around the 1890s, the tea room was converted into a grocery shop.
