Hello again,
After nearly a month in Scotland , I can say it,s a great country that you all should visit! I took the ferry from Stromness (Orkneys) to Scabster on 3 July ,regretting not having planned more time for the Shetland and Orkney Islands ,but thats life.
From Scabster i took a short trip to Thurso for a coffee and a look at the town before i took the designated R1 route in the direction of Bettyhill, with a strong westerly wind blowing in my face and a few nice Hills to climb it was slow ride but rewarding because of the varying Landscape beginning with green, rich pasturing land changing into rugged hilly ground. The next morning the rain set in and continued till the afternoon at which time i headed south to Altnaharra, a little village in the middle of nowhere but the road there was very scenic, fairly flat with hardly any traffic. As Altnaharra offered no Camping grounds,i continued south, getting caught in a nasty storm with rain and hailstones, i was forced to stop at the Crask Inn which turned out to be a marvellous experience because the couple who run it,Mike and Kai( Kai is a nickname for Katherine) were extremely nice and told me i could have their son,s room and could have a bath and afterwards 3 coarse dinner and on top of that breakfast in the morning for a very reanonable price. That was just what i needed!I must close now as Isabel and i will be spending our last hours together for a long time and we want to do something nice. Bye for now Des
P.s. I will contact all of you who have asked when i return to Germany at the end of September
