Hi everyone, sorry for taking so long to update the blog, i know you have all been asking my mum what im doing, ive been a very busy boy.
Il start off by telling you of the open poetry night in a pub's function room called sammy does. The team and i were invited by my host family to attend a night out to read some poetry. Only down part of that was we all had to write our own material and then perform in front of each other and strangers, up on stage. As i am staying with the host, i had to get up first!! as you all know i have stage-fright! plus im not a good poetry writer, so i stole some lyrics from a couple of songs and stuck them together!! i got away with it to, until James on Friday decided to tell Colin (host family) where i got the words from!!!!!
I have also had to cook the host family including two guests a meal with Sarmad. Sarmad did a chicken biryani (traditional Pakistani meal) and i did a chicken korma. Unfortunately we had to make the whole thing from scratch...including the sauce!! We had 5 critics who all came back with positive feedback, saying it was very nice. which was really good. I have to do a traditional lincolnshire/english dish next, has anyone got any ideas? all i can come up with is bangers and mash!!.
Two weekends ago, the team and i went away for the whole weekend up north near fort william for our mid-phase review. This is a weekend to talk about we think the volunteering is going and to discuss how any problems have of arisen. On the last day we went up to fort william and loch lomen. We had a pub dinner, then drove all the way back to Glasgow, where i slept most the way!!!
Last weekend i went to Edinburgh for two days. The first day i went to the youth parliment, and was lectured about climate change then i went on a mile long march down the royal mile for the change to legalislation. That night i went to a meal to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the scottish youth parliment which was very fun, that led onto a comedy act. The second day i went sightseeing around Edinburgh itself, going up to the castle gates and climbing he huge hill/mountain overlooking the whole of Edinburgh,
This weekend as you know mum, dad and James came up and saw me, on Friday we went out for a meal in merchants square, where we had Italian and also met up with Sabina, who joined us for a while. We then went out to celebrate Deborah's 25th birthday but james and i werent allowed in because i didnt have id and james wasnt old enough. On saturday we all went out shopping in the morning at the retail park called the Fort. We then went back to my host family's house for a poetry afternoon, where dad got up and performed!!!!!! send me an email and il try to send you the pictures for it (jenny and jeff, i will be sending them tomorrow hopefully). i also had stand up and perform my poem again. We tried to all get into the international music/poetry night in tollgate, but again James was not allowed in. I was going to go with mum and dad until dad told me to go with the group to this thing, would like to point out i did try very hard to persuade him that i didnt care if we did nothing, as long as i was with them on their last night up here. But in the end i went to this performance, which was actually very good and entertaining. Yesterday i went to the Glasgow mela, which is a huge internatioanl festival, and helped out on the oxfam stall. Salma learnt how to skateboard, as soon as her eyes looked at it, she jumped straight on and had a go. Would like to point out this is the very first time Salma had every seen one, i had to tell her what it was.
Today i played golf, or even just hit a stupid plastic ball about with a golf club on a patch of grass no bigger than 30 yards wide 20 yards long!!!. In the upcoming weeks, i am expecting to have two film nights, an open week at my placement, a ceiligh, a fun run, two parties, go down to london and fly to Kenya, thats all happening in the next 13 days!!!! you can see how busy i am!
Im missing you all very much, and hope to see you all when i get back from Kenya in September!!!!
5/ Coming up ..... Fun run/ Ceiligh
