Well, it's been over a year since our trip to Italy and, as predicted, I've not been back to that post to updated it.... BUT I've had good reason, which will probably not be a surprise to anyone who has followed this for the last 8 years, but we've had another baby! Baby Martha was born on 11th November and is settling into our fit-to-burst home. I appreciate this has become less about travelling over the last few years but it's still relevant to our journey so here we are, our first year (2017) without a family trip abroad was completed with the arrival of Martha in mid November. So, what's been going on? Well Flynn has just turned four (it's the 30th of January 2018), Lois is away to turn NINE and Ella is six, ... read more

I have always meant to keep this blog more up to date but life just seems to get in the way, I wanted to keep this more of a diary of our travels and trips but I’ve not succeeded in that aim, as always I will plan to do so going forward! So, where are we – April 2016, we’re still in the same house and I’m still working the same job. The kids are well, seven, four and two year olds now, work is going well - very busy with some travel to the Middle East (Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat) America (Denver, Houston, Austin) and Europe (Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Vilnius) since I last wrote here. Fiona gave up her job with the NHS and is now starting a private practice for Speech and Language Therapy ... read more

Hello my lovelies, I just ask the question as I really don't have a scooby what's happened in the last decade, in 2004 I started planning a round the world trip for me and my tidy girlfriend, later that year it all went ahead as planned and in 2006 we came home enlightened and encouraged. We weren't long back before I started to think about the next trip, Africa and South America were the (not quite so) planned destinations but first we had to pay of the debt accrued from the first trip and save for the next... Then life got in the way. The next year I married the tidy girlfriend. The next year Fiona got pregnant. The next year we had our first born, Lois (now four). The next year Fiona got pregnant. The ... read more

We have thoroughly enjoyed our few days in the Highlands even if our last night has been spent in the second most uncomfortable bed we have endured on the BBA V2 at the Glencoe Youth Hostel. Surely the Youth Hostel organisation must be making enough money at GBP46 twin to replace the hard mattresses in their Glencoe establishment. We shall make that suggestion in our review anyway! Before we left the area we checked out the North Balachulish church over the bridge from Glencoe for Gretchen’s lost rellies grave but without any success. And as one last chance we also took the road that runs beside Loch Leven the 12km up to the top of the loch at Kinlochleven just in case there was another cemetery that might reveal their final place of rest. And while ... read more

Greeeeeeeeeeee – tings! It’s been a while, how have y’all been? Well I hope. So what’s been happening with the family Mudpie over the last few months I hear you ask, well we’ve been on holiday which was awesomeness but I’ll add another blog for that but a few other key events have happened since we just last, the biggest of which being me getting a new job (and if this is the big news it also means there’s no news of another baby on the way, thankfully...) but anyway, my job.. Going way back to when I started this blog in 2004 I took a career break from my job of 6 years to go backpacking around the world, hence the Travelblog, but when we came back Fiona couldn’t get a job in Edinburgh which ... read more

Howdy partners, what have I missed? Okay that’s enough about you, back to me, #mediawhore that I am…. So, firstly apologies to my legions of subscribers (Hi Mum!) as I had inadvertently made these blogs private which meant you needed to have a user name and password to view them… my bad, it’s sorted now and we’re back in the public domain, world domination to follow… Now on to the main even, since my last blog we’ve had another……. GIRL (of course we did, I’ve always thought if I have one, three or eight children they will all be beautiful blonde bombshells that means I never sleep a wink after their 15th birthday party and so far I’ve been proved right……) so little Ella June Mudie was born at 12:38 on the 15th of September weighing ... read more

Bonjour! – And here we are again, 9th of July was our last blog so 9 months later, what has been happening to all you lovely people?? Okay, I’ll start with an update from us… It’s the 12th of April 2011 and I’m sitting in my work recovering from the weekend, I was at the Grand National down in Aintree for the second year running and am still feeling slightly worse for wear, it was a great weekend with the same eight chaps as last year and we’re already looking forward to next year. I think it’s like the pain of childbirth, kind of, by the time next year comes around you forget how sore it was and that you said you would never do this again, but ultimately you do as it’s worth it. Yes ... read more

It's been a while, I'm not sure if anyone even reads this anymore but I thought it only fair I give another update.... It's the afternoon of Friday the 9th of July 2010, our daughter Lois is 17 months-old today, unbelievable. We've also today accepted an offer on our house so we're moving again, 6 weeks today although we haven't found anywhere we like to buy yet.... I'm trying to convince Fiona that we should take the sale proceeds and head to South America for a year or so, bring up Lois in Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay and the like, she's not for it, not even entertaining the discussions or humouring me in the slightest so I know she means business, ah well - a boy can dream... So, where were we? Fiona returned to ... read more

Monday 20th July A day of relaxation We were late to bed last night after the Benvie family reunion and this morning we slept in big time.At least for us that is!!It was nearly 8am before we awoke which we guess shows how comfortable we were in the best bed we have had to date. Thanks John and Aileen!!It probably also confirms that we were ready for a longer sleep than we were getting on the west coast and in the Highlands with all those late sunsets at nearly 11pm. We had a casual breakfast and Aileen and John are such great hosts that we didn’t notice the time go by as we chatted away. Their home is just outside the town of Montrose and overlooks the Montrose inlet with a view that is ever changing as ... read more

Sunday 19th July A Benvie family reunion The day has dawned with more misty light rain and it seems like that at least the first part of our driving day will be wet. We are heading today for Montrose on the east coast north of Dundee to stay with my cousin Aileen and husband John.Aileen has arranged a Benvie family reunion giving us an opportunity to meet more of the clan that we haven’t met before. We have planned a bit of a circuitous route across the country to get to Montrose as we haven’t yet been to Scotland’s most famous place names,Loch Lomond. From Ballachulish we took the A82 heading up the Glencoe valley climbing over a spectacular pass.At the top the light rain stopped enabling us to take photos of the grand scenery of ... read more
