In a completely random series of events, I was invited to a current-Edinburgher-former-Abedonian (Helen)'s little sister (Laura)'s 21st in Aberdeen (about 2 and a half hours north of Edinburgh on the train) on the weekend... seriously pretty train trip up, but was fairly overcast and misty so I didn't take any pics. So you'll just have to take my word for it!
So I get to Aberdeen, the granite city, at about lunchtime on Saturday. The girls take me out to lunch (or maybe Helen and I took the birthday girl out for lunch) at a pub who's name will remain lost forever in mists of time... but they have a deal that if you wait longer than 15mins for your food you eat for free. Score! Ours took 23 mins! Should've ordered the steak... we then went for a drive around town, got to see where all the hookers hang out and put my feet in the north sea. They are yet to regain any feeling, but the toes have remained attached.
Then the big night! We go to Laura's flat and play drinking games (their version of kings, called circle of death or something, and their
Kareoke KingsSeriously, they have now changed their names to Kare (nee Helen) and Oke (nee Annie)
version of 21, that is way more complicated than ours) with cava (don't freak out, its what they call champagne because they aren't allowed to call it champagne... needless to say, pretty silly by the time we got to Laura's local, the Priory. Set in an old church, which i thought was awesome, so my kind of worship, it is reminiscent of the vic upstairs... downstairs they have karoke, which Helen and Laura's flatmate Annie (who makes an awesome cup of tea, gets the teapot and milk jug out and everything) were so good at we're all surprised that they haven't been offered a record deal yet! All in all very shockingly big night, made perfect by chips with bolognese and cheese to top up, and only slightly let down by the 15min walk in the rain on the way home. Not cool Darwin rain, but bloody cold Aberdeen rain. But still all good...
Next day Helen's parents had us over for spaghetti... thanks! Good to get some parent time, even if they aren't mine. Ummm what else... oh yeah, the seagulls up there are the size of terradactyls. Seriously.
Such a random weekend, it was awesome... so
thanks heaps to the Goss's!
