Background: Great Britain, the dominant industrial and maritime power of the 19th century, played a leading role in developing parliamentary democracy and in advancing literature and science. At its zenith, the British Empire stretched over one-fourth of the earth's surface. The first half of the 20th century saw the UK's strength seriously depleted in two World Wars. The second half witnessed the dismantling of the Empire and the UK rebuilding itself into a modern and prosperous European nation. As one of five permanent members of the UN Security Council, a founding member of NATO, and of the Commonwealth, the UK pursues a global approach to foreign policy; it currently is weighing the degree of its integration with continental Europe. A member of the EU, it chose to remain outside the Economic and Monetary Union for the time being. Constitutional reform is also a significant issue in the UK. The Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales, and the Northern Ireland Assembly were established in 1999, but the latter is suspended due to bickering over the peace process.

---That it's so long since my last blog!! In that time I have found out more about the novel insurance world of Bulgaria, reconfirmed the reliability of car and mechanic, and found out that a lot of my old friends seem delighted to see me.Whoo eee! Firstly Hallowe'en was fun but not really a going concern yet. Several of the 'family' adults were missing which in itself is a rare occurance but those that did come enjoyed the snacks and fireworks - so I was not too unhappy. The next day however when the others came the remaining snacks and toffee apples [View Full Entry]

What an incredible day! I'm soooo glad that we decided to do BOTH tours, one each in Scotland and Ireland. it was a long day but very worthwhile. We left about 5:30 am and had to take a charter bus to Belfast, then transfer to our paddywagon tour guide. It was a long ride to our first destination which was the rope bridge in the Causeway area. Warren was the brave one while I snapped pics. Bye the way, did somebody order some sun just to arrive at the perfect moment? It poured rain until we arrived and waited ten minutes [View Full Entry]

The beginning of the week has been good so far. Teaching class Monday morning was very good, I let the kids play 5on5 for the first time and they actually did a great job. The week before I tried to teach them the concept of screening and they had a tough time tackling the idea of it. So i finally got the chance to give homework to the students and it felt great, guess what the homework was?!?! I made them go on youtube and watch my screen on Nolan Smith and the only question they had to answer so I [View Full Entry]

Our second game of the season got off to a rough start. As a team we came out a little sluggish and DCU took advantage of that and pulled out to a quick lead. I got in early foul trouble again and got two fouls in the first quarter, they wont cut me any slack over here, guess I am to physical, ha..We cut the lead to about 15 points, but never got closer than that. It was a frustrating defeat because as a team we are much more talented, we just need to use our talents together and we will [View Full Entry]

I was just thinking about my recents blogs and I havent given you all a typical week for me over here in Belfast. Obviously I am studying here and getting my master's in Sports Management as well as teaching first year students. I start off my monday's teaching first year students (freshman) basketball. It is an awesome class because none of the kids have ever played basketball before so I am getting a chance to teach them a new sport. As people know I love doing that, so I am really enjoying that, and I get paid to do it as [View Full Entry]

Wow...what a weekend I had in Dublin...I went to Dublin with another American who is studying here as well and playing volleyball. We headed down Saturday afternoon and took the bus. Crossing the border we got stopped by the immigration patrol..pretty scary. I didnt know I should bring my passport and they asked for everyone to take them out. Thank goodness they didnt ask for mine!! We were fortunate enough to get tickets to the Ireland vs Italy soccer match, quite the experience. They tied 2-2 so it was a fun game to watch. Sunday we went to the Guinness factory [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone!! Hope everyone is doing well back at home....this weekend should be a lot of fun. Tonight we have practice from 5 to 6:30 should be an easy one because of the game on Sunday. After practice the team is heading into Belfast to go watch the Belfast Giants play the Newcastle Eagles. The Belfast Giants are the ice hockey team here and I hear are pretty good. Don't know if they are as good as the Captials which I hear are 1-0 and beat Boston last night. At least we have one good team in the Metropolitian Area ha. [View Full Entry]

The entire group of 10 went on a private tour to Giant’s Causeway. Along the way we saw some beautiful countryside and lots of sheep. We went through several small villages along the way. One village named Cushendall is the heart of an annual glens festival (1st week in August). They also have “hurling” games here quite frequently. Another village known as Lockarema (the vanishing lakes) is 1100 feet above sea level. Another small fishing village was Bally Castle which has a rope bridge and as of 2002 there is no more salmon. Finally, arrived at the Giant’s Causew [View Full Entry]
