Hello my friends! Well yesterday was a bit of a mixed day.... I went to meet Robynne (mom's friend who came over from SA for the wedding) before she flew home. We met outside Harrods and had a shop around and then went for a Krispy Kreme and a coffee (Harrods have a Krispy Kreme!!! I had original glazed and a maple icing one - the maple iced KK is EXCELLENT!!!) So after Rob left I decided that instead of going back to dad's (1 hr journey) I would kill some time in London until I had to meet Nick Berry. So it was about 3pm and I was meeting Nick at 7pm - 4 hours in london should be theoretically easy to kill... It's not unless you want to spend a ridiculously huge amount of ... read more

So, this is my first entry- you getting aqainted with me. Me telling you all where exactly i'm at and have been. Most of you that are going to read my blogs will be aware that i haven't yet started backpacking around good old Europe just yet. That journey begins on the 29th June and cannot come quick enough. Although, at present i am trying to work out the best mode of transport for me and my pal Rach, and actually whether we should even worry about organising transport before we go or not. I am thinking yes because although i believe i am independant, or rather like to think, a little bit of security is always going to be welcome on my journey. My adventure/journey/working holiday, call it what you will, started in January 2006. ... read more

Jon, Camille and I had another unbelievable day in London. Jon hit Moss Bros early this morning to pick up his morning coat and top hat. Once we were all dressed, Robert our driver picked us up and took us to Opening day of Royal Ascot. One of the Queen’s favorite pastimes in horseracing and this is her horseracing party. The grounds are truly amazing and this year was the second year of the new building and they have really perfected everything. Once we were in the Royal Enclosure. We went to the Parade Ring to watch The Queen, Camilla, Prince Charles and others ride in by horse and carriage and then go to the Royal Box. We all had a bit of lunch, pimm’s cups and champagne and then bet on the first race, ... read more

I actually had time to go grocery shopping today. It was the most fun ever. Luckily there were a ton of sales so I got a lot of food. Its so nice to not have to eat the little sandwiches from the tiny grocery store next door to our flat. Basically today we had a long day of classes. I don't know what it is about class, but after about 5 minutes I start to pass out. Anyways after class we went to see The Merchant of Venice at the Globe. In order to get to the theater you have to walk over the Millennium Bridge that crosses the Thames River. The performance was so well done. It was a really long play but still entertaining. It is an open air theater and people stand down ... read more

So seen as I will never probably meet any real stars while in London, at least I can pretend I have!!! here is the photo evidence to prove it!! what an interesting place Madam Tussauds is, kind of like walking onto the red carpet. I enjoyed just sitting back watching all the tourists, its great how they have a few live actors interspersed amongst the wax figurines . . . . . then every so often they would move . . . . and see how people jump!!!! Of course I got my picture with a couple of my favourites . . . and here they are... read more

So just a quick note about the people here... NOBODY likes us! We have met so many mean and completely unhelpful British people. Not saying that all British people don't like Americans but we have run into our fair share. Initially, we thought that nobody knew the streets around the city and that was why they kept giving us wrong directions. More and more its seeming that they really don't care if we find our destination and might even be purposely giving us misleading directions. COOOL! The other night we were coming home from dinner and a random man in a moccasin jacket starts yelling at us from behind. We weren't even being loud for once. He tries talking to one of the guys and starts yelling about Americans and how we should keep walking ... read more

Although it's been two days, it feels to all of us that Monday and Tuesday have been smeared together into one, long stretch of a day. We began driving to Houston and on the way through security, Caroline had to get specially searched because of all the jewlery she had on. It ended up being the earrings. Thanks a lot, Ellie. The flight was long and pretty uncomfortable, at least in my opinion. But we got to watch movies and got served dinner and breakfast. (Who eats turkey sandwiches for breakfast?? That's what I'd like to know.) We finally arrived after a nine hour, overnight flight. London is great, very busy. Kind of like New York. But not. I don't know how to explain it. Our cab driver, Cyrus, was very talkative but the downside ... read more

Its amazing how quickly the past two years seem to have flown by - as soon as I touched down it felt like I had never left. Stinky ole’ London some say…and it’s true you know, this place has a certain smell (stench would be too harsh of a word) about it. And this smell took me back exactly to the first time I came to London four years ago…the closest thing I could liken it to the most was how when you haven’t been smoking for a while and when you have a cigarette it tastes exactly the same as when you first started smoking. It was like that walking around for the first week - I was immediately reminded of how magical it felt discovering this city for the very first time. Cool ... read more

Hi all, thanks again to all that made it along, and sorry to those who didn't make it, you missed out on a great start to the summer! After torrential rain all afternoon, the sky cleared up for a gorgeous eve of boozing, barbequing and some pretty illuminating speeches. Man of the match goes to Alan 'frogman' Beverly, who after losing his car keys during his evening of debauchery, braved the night bus in full costume.. a true lad. The party almost ended on a sour note when for the upteenth time the shisha pipe was knocked over and charcoal burned through Ouain's shorts while he quietly slumbered; luckily he walked away unscathed & intact with the help of rich's nimble fingers removing the offending charcoal from Mr Dineen's crotchal region. After such a great ... read more

Day 2 in London Europe » United Kingdom » England » London By The Martini sJune 18th 2007Kelly Martin Today we were privileged to attend the Order of the Garter Ceremony at Windsor Castle. This is the oldest British Order of Chivalry and was started in 1348 by Edward III. The King or Queen has an Order of 25 knights and they are knighted into the Garter every year on this day. There is a royal procession from the Castle to the Chapel and then tea. The British do pageantry like no other place in the world. The event was truly amazing and there is no real way to describe the ... read more
