So where is Borough and what type of a place is it?
Early on Borough became known for its inns and bawdy behaviour and as a hideout for felons. Today it is very much a part of London, and its unsavoury reputation has gone. The neighbourhood is now a Conservation Area to preserve its special character.
There is a great potpourri of architecture, from the beautiful Hop Exchange and The George Inn, built in 1676, to the numerous modern office blocks and warehouse conversions
Running south from the southern end of London Bridge, Borough High Street winds its way down from London Bridge to the unusually named Elephant and Castle. (hmm more research on this one for later).
It's a very busy street, with plenty of shops, cafes and offices, and it's not exactly the most visually attractive road going around but there is plenty to see.
I've been happy to sit in one of the many excellent cafes and watch the workers of this world buzz around the main streets on their way to their offices.
The great thing about this place is that it is so close to the Thames and town that
you can walk to the centre of the city in a matter of minutes, though at the moment I'm still happy to watch the other people walk as i have books to read.
