On Thursday, after a slow start with a late breakfast, Jean, Ron and I went out to do some grocery shopping. After Jo finished work at 1:30, she came over to pick up Jean and I to take us out for dumplings at Wing Yip in Purley. This is a very big restaurant, with a grocery store beside it. It specialises in dumplings like our yum cha, which they sell until 3pm, and they also have an a la carte menu. As it was a very late lunch, we bought a soup home for our tea that night. Friday morning was spent in the house, playing with Oscar the one-eyed cat and watching birds in the garden and squirrel outside the conservatory. As it was my final day on Friday, we decided to go out for ... read more

On Friday, we had to be off the boat by 9am so we were all up early to clear out the boat and finish packing by that time. A taxi took us from the boat to Beziers Train station for the 12:11-13:41 train to Toulouse-Matabiau train station. From there, we squeezed into a taxi for Toulouse Blagnac Airport for the 5:15pm EasyJet flight to London Gatwick Airport. London is an hour behind France so we landed at just after 6pm local time and a car service picked me up to take me to Jean and Ron’s house in Surrey, where I am staying for the next week. I arrived about 7:30pm and Jean had cooked a potato pie for our dinner so we sat and chatted before dinner, catching up on all our news. Saturday has ... read more

We thought about it for years, we read about places we wanted to visit and see for months and we had our travel gear ready for many days before the 'The Day'. Despite all of that we never felt it was time to go.....What if we didn't close some things or didn't think of something? It does not matter now anyway;-) Goodbyes were really hard. Saying 'See you in a year or more' to our friends and colleagues at work was nerve racking. There was a lot of tears ( at least from my side) even though we knew there are amazing days to come. I can see now why people are doing it when at Uni. Nothing to be attached to, no career left behind, no house to be rent to someone and no ... read more

Geo: 51.2408, -0.170086This morning I asked Val if she could drive me into town. I was in pain when I put my shoes on. I made a big mistake by not breaking in my hiking shoes before this trip. The blister was huge and the skin had come off. She said yes. I have found the place to go to buy summer shoes- Clarks. So many nice pairs of shoes. Here I found a pair of brown slip on shoes to wear so that I won't be housebound for the next week waiting for it to heal. Back at home, I read my guide book and made sightseeing plans for the day after tomorrow.... read more

Geo: 51.2408, -0.170086Yes, everyone was right it will be cold in the UK and it certainly is. It's mid morning and only 2 degrees outside. I am sitting here looking out the window in between using the computer. Outside it has been snowing for three hours and it looks beautiful. Just as well that the weather isn't great, because I have a big blister on my heel and couldn't go out if I wanted to until it heals. I tried to take photos, but the snow didn't show up too well. I am staying in today and watching TV. I saw the milkman delivering milk this morning. He leaves the glass milk bottles on ... read more

Geo: 51.2408, -0.170086I braved the cold this afternoon and walked into the town of Redhill. Ten minutes later with a frozen nose and lips I was in the shopping centre, where it is nice and warm. I needed/wanted some shoes, so I browsed the shoe shops. I ended up getting a pair of suede-like boots, as I paid for them the sales assistants warned me that she doesn't recommend them to be worn outside - well what good are they then! I still bought them from the department store called Marks and Spencer. I also saw some clothes here that I like, so I will have to return. I enjoyed shopping today, as I haven't been shopping for months due to saving money for this overseas adventure.... read more

Geo: 51.2408, -0.170086Finally, after a long flight we are flying over London, the flight is early so we had to float about in the sky for 20 minutes! It is 6.30am and it is pitch black outside. When we did land at Heathrow, it was a bit bumpy and I wasn't impressed. I breezed through customs with my Italian passport, got a trolley to pile my luggage onto and headed out looking for Val, who I am staying with. Val is my Auntie Jacqui's cousin. I will stay with her and her family for a little while. They live in Redhill, Greater London. I looked and looked around for her, I hadn't met her ... read more
