I'm loving walking the streets of Oxford, seeing and sometimes stopping at my old haunts, which for the frist time ever teach me what it means to walk with ghosts from your past. It is as if Raechel and Trey walk with me down Banbury street in loud laughter and southern accents out of place in this University, or as if Colleen sits opposite me reading The Waves by Virginia Woolf in Cafe Nero or Cafe Republic, and even as if Mazzy stands by my side as I discover the secrets of wireless communication and the inventions of Marconi in the basement exhibit of the Museum of the History of Science. It truly is the people, the important people, who make everyday experiences memorable. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying the independence of traveling by myself, something that comes ... read more

Hello from Bangkok….again. As it has been a couple of weeks since my last update, I thought I would quickly write up something. I figure I always have to at least add a couple of pictures so I have included some from my final weekend in the UK. My last week there was a bit crazy due to lots of work changes, but I still enjoyed my long weekend alone and explored some areas of London I have always wanted to see (i.e. Notting Hill - no Hugh Grant or Julia Roberts…but it was still cool). I also went to see the performance of Chicago (very good), and took a little road trip back to Oxford. It was fun to go back to the college that I had my little study abroad program at and roam ... read more

We are still in Oxford and absolutely loving it. We are staying at the same hostel that we stayed in 3 years ago which is a lively place not far from the centre of town, literally 3 minutes walk. The atmosphere is really friendly so it will be a bit sad when we say goodbye to our new friends and head off to Rome tomorrow. The other morning due to the time difference between here and NYC I found myself unable to go back to sleep after waking at 5am. So I grabbed the trusty iPod and spent the next 2 hours walking around the town listening to OK Computer. It was fantastic to see the sun rise over the old buildings of the University. We have spent today at the birthplace of another great historcial ... read more

So, this is my new, improved blogsite for my next trip - Mexico. I leave on Tuesday 4th April and fly to Mexico city where I'll be travelling around before going to do a language revision course in Oaxaca. On 24th April I start work in a school for 12-15 year olds in a suburb of Guadalajara where I shall be for 12 weeks. Then it'll be another 2-3 weeks of travelling around, probably over to the Yucaton Peninsula before heading home, currently booked for the 7th August, so I can start work in the real world. If you received an email about my blogsite but don't want to receive update messages in future, just click on 'unsubscribe' on your email. If you know anyone else who wants to be added, just send me a message ... read more

And now we are in Oxford. Its great to be back in this beautiful and historic town. It has been just over 3 years since I last came to the place that is famous for its world reknowned University but more importantly (to some of us) for producing the greatest english band since Pink Floyd....that band of course is Radiohead. Hopefully we will spot one of the boys around town. So our North American adventures, are over for now. I can speak for both of us when I say that we had an abssolutely fantastic time. It is so hard to work out what the best bit was because pretty much it was all great. Also sometimes its not seeing the empire state building that affects you most, its driving through Texas listening to explosions in ... read more

...was where I found myself for outdoor regionals this past weekend. It was an amazing and awesome weekend playing some great outdoor frisbee and generally having fun, despite the wind, slanted pitches and a few bumps and bruises. Saturday saw everyone getting up incredibly early to drive the couple hours to Witney, near Oxford for the first day of regionals. The tourney was hosted by Oxford Uni and was held at the Cokethorpe School. The school grounds were sooo cool!!! It used to be an old manor house with extensive grounds, which when you walked through was like walking through the inner bailey of a castle, or as Biscuit remarked, like walking through a French village. It was just an amazing setting, complete with a flock of sheep grazing nearby. Very picturesque. Game recap: Our first ... read more

Drove up to Oxford to visit with Mary Sean’s grandmother it was a nice drive not much traffic in the afternoon. We stopped for lunch along the way. The evening was spent talking, reading and watching a bit of British telly. Saturday, was crisp clear day so the family went on a long walk along the Colleges of Oxford. Sean’s aunt and uncle visited during the morning hours with their dog Tessi who we took on our walk. The trail takes you through botanical gardens with pretty fountains and eventually leads along the canal where we eyed quite a few student rowing teams practicing their sport. After walking for a couple of hours, Maureen and I head to the shops while Sean and Thomas continue on the path further a field with Tessi. We walk around ... read more

After a long night of restless sleep I got up at what seemed to be way TOO early for a Saturday morning. But I did my thing and had my coffee and cereal and got ready for a trip to Oxford! It was absolutely wonderful. So, antique and beautiful. Basically Oxford was different from what i thought it was. I thought it was one big school, but it really is an elite association of colleges and no matter what school a person attends, the degree says Oxford University. Also, I found out HOW "expensive" it is to attend an Oxford school. It only costs 1,000 - 3,000 GBpounds a year. That means that it costs only $6,000 American dollars to attend! So, remind me then why i am going to school where it costs me about ... read more
