Sometimes things are better done the second time around. Sometimes we need to redo something in order to get a better result, because the first time did not pan out the way it was planned. As they say, If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. We are all only human and no one gets it right the first time every time. So, for me its travel 2.0, quarantine 2.0, regaining myself and my heart 2.0 and blog 2.0. Normal people do a singular 180 to turn their life around and generally seem to hold it there. Well, it appears that this is not my style. It turns out that for me life is a series of dizzying pirouettes. This time I will commit to traversing my life on a roller coaster instead of the ... read more

So, this morning began with a flurry at the rather ungoldy hour of about 5 am, but as I couldn't really sleep (combination of excitement and a truly shitty bed) it really didn't matter. Last night, after writing, I wandered around the dark streets of London and had my first proper pint of Guinness at a rather crappy and trendy bar next to The "Imperial" called the Night and Day Pub. Not bad, just not particularly my cup. So, we begin and my luggage makes weight, which is apparantly of great importance. I came in at around 42 pounds with a limit of 44, so I was not required to move anything. Once weighed the excited travelers were faced with a rather unfortunate situation. The only place open to get any sort of food was ... read more

First of, I have left London. I turned my back on the city that constantly penalised me wherever I drove, if it’s not bus lanes then its parking, if is not parking it is egger cameras at ‘yellow’ lights. The worst is getting a parking ticket for not properly displaying my residents parking permit (the wiper obscured the date apparently!). So I have 3 ongoing cases with various London borough councils, I’m dam well going to get some letters out of my fines if nothing else! But that’s not really the reason I’ve left the big smoke, though finances are a major factor. Not paying a London rent is blissful! I’m off to Australia at the beginning of February. I know this leaving the country for somewhere warm lark is becoming the trend of my life! ... read more

Back in the year 2000, I was a 21 year old boy who dreamed of seeing the world. I did not know what I would find when I went out in to the world, and I had no real idea of where I should go if I did go out to see the world. I just knew that I wanted to get out there and have some fun and open my eyes to a different way of life. I was working at a fashion outlet at Bicester Village, and was feeling very underwhelmed by life. I had a huge desire to leave the place I felt to be a "one horse town" and I was encouraged to start thinking about a round-the-world-trip after several of my colleagues began to leave for their own adventures. All I ... read more

Welcome to the Happy Wanderer's Retrospective Travel Blog. I am creating this blog to tell stories from my travels around the World between 2001 and 2010. My first trip around the world was back in 2001 when I backpacked from Holland to Australia via India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. The trip was badly planned and poorly researched and was the greatest time of my life! I aim to provide an honest and interesting journal detailing my travels, my thoughts and my regrets and all the fun and exciting moments in between. Enjoy reading!... read more
