Considering it is snowing outside, it’s incredible that we STILL have to take the doona out of the quilt cover and pile it in the corner! We even have those little top windows open to get fresh air. The owners specially left two extra space heaters and extra blankets here for us, but we don’t need them. When we headed out this morning our car was covered in snow. Really thickly. It was 10am, and 2 degrees. Tom cleared the snow off the windows and the rest of it eventually left us as we journeyed. What an amazing day! For those of you with itineraries, we didn’t follow it today. Because of the snow we’ve had to make adjustments, we start later in the day and lost yesterday, but today was a day of exploring some ... read more

Hi everyone again We arrived at Seahouses not far from border of Scotland,on the Northumberland coast.we visited Bamburgh Castle not far from where we are staying. From Anglo Saxon citadel to impenetrable Norman stronghold,Bamburgh castle was home to the Kings of Northumbria. The first castle to fall to canon fire in the wars of the roses. We all had an amazing day it’s a stunning castle. Last night Kevin and I went on evening cruise to the Farne islands not far from where we are in Seahouses. The Farne islands are a national nature reserve home to an internationally important breeding colony of a thousands of sea birds and Grey seals. On the way home we saw a minky whale, and dozens of dolphins it was amazing. Today we went to Holy Ilsand also called Lindisfarne is ... read more

We didm't have a good sleep after our news of yesterday . Well you wouldn't would you? Your head would go round and round trying to work out what had happened . You would have been annoyed that the people buying your house waited so long to decide to come back for a second viewing . You would be angry with them for saying nothing and letting the solicitors start the process . Our night had been well and truly disturbed by our thoughts. Trying to work out what we did wrong . What was wrong with our home ? It did not matter how many times we talked it through we found it hard to understand . A very large red wine did help slightly . Red wine always makes the world seem better . ... read more

Geo: 54.9863, -1.61224 6 May - 31 May 2015 We returned home from New Zealand after a long journey, 42 hours door to door (we do always allow extra time in case something goes wrong on the way to the airport) and decided in future we would make stopovers. Once recovered from the flight and after staying with Gilli for a few nights we moved to Rochford in Essex to stay with Pauline and Colin and prepare ourselves for Pauline's 60th party. It was a really lovely afternoon and I hope Pauline enjoyed it. P & C are really patient with our comings and goings and uncomplainingly store our excess clothes for which we are very grateful! From Essex we moved down to Eastbourne for Dentist, Optician etc and then with a mix of excitement and ... read more

As we crossed the North York Moors we spied a glimpse of the North Sea and coast far below us. A day later we could touch the sea in the town of Whitby where Captain James Cook apprenticed and began sailing. Having visited the beach in Hawaii where Cook's career ended, we were fascinated by the museum in the house where he studied by candlelight at night in his attic room. Whitby is also the location in Bram Stoker's book where the ship carrying Dracula's coffin crashed and the bat flew ashore. We managed to pass up the Dracula museum on the boardwalk but we didn't skip the pub advertised to have the best fish and chips in England. We followed the coast north along a bike route called Coasts and Castles, seeing restored castles and ... read more

As with Holy Island whilst the causeway is open, “The Secret Kingdom” is not really a secret anymore. The wide open spaces, miles of golden sand and good northern hospitality have all been discovered, so much so that even the smallest of cottages is seriously expensive even out of season and out of school holidays. We too up residence in Beadnall - not as upmarket as Bamburgh, but more pleasant than Seahouses. There isn’t a great deal to the village apart from two pubs, the old lime kilns on the harbour and a wide sweeping bay of sand that would be recognised as one of the world’s great beaches if temperatures were higher. The website views suggested that we would be taking up refreshment residence in the Craster Arms, but appearances can be deceptive and we ... read more
