Tuesday was our long walk day and we wanted to find a nice circular route up Ingleborough! Dad, Mark and I drove to the Ingleton Information Centre where a very helpful man let us in early and let us flick through the walk guides. Annoyingly the way we drove in and parked didn't have an obvious P&D sign and though we were only there 20min tops avery inflexible parking warden gave Dad a ticket! (Even though we provided photographic evidennce of lack of signs in this part of the car park they made him pay it!) We did find a nice looking route though which was a bit under 10miles - incoroporating parts of The Pennine Journey and A Dales High Way. We parked on car on the outskirts of Ingleton and climbed the long rocky ... read more

Sunday morning after breakfast we set off for Ingleton and the White Scar Caves. We arrived just in time to join the next guided walk whick took us about a mile, mostly following an underground stream. There were a couple of waterfalls, a long section walking above the stream. Some parts were narrow and tight and we were glad of our helmets which frequently hit the roof. There were several interesting formations and our guide told of stories about the cave's discovery. Then we went to the Ingleton Waterfall Trail, stopping for lunch at the entrance café. This was a beautiful walk starting going upstream along the River Twiss passing the Pecca Falls, Hollybush Spout and up to Thornton Force then leaving the river & heading across the fells past Twisleton Hall. There was an intrepid ... read more

Another lovely Yorkshire morning and I think I might even get into shorts today and discard the sweat top for our drive up into the Yorkshire Dales. On our last trip, the BBA V2 in 2013, we had hoped we could have made contact with my third cousin, Morag, of the Sturrock family living in Yorkshire but time and events counted against us. In the meantime I had become ‘friends ‘with her daughter Michele on Facebook and it was through a message from her that we learnt of Morag’s passing earlier this year just a few months before we were due in England. However, today we will meet up with Michele and her husband Andy and a further connection in my family tree will be made in person. With 2 suitcases full of clean clothes after ... read more

Hey guys, thanks for the bday messages and cards made my day :) especially the one with Blake holding a card saying happy birthday aunty eggie, that was awsome!. So last week we decided to take a ride up country on a train from Kings cross station to have a look round northern england and a bit of scotland. We loved the lush green country side and the clean air, it was so good compared to cigerate smelling smoggy London. So we caught the train to Edinborough and stayed in a hostel for the night then the next day we went and hired a car. They gave us a 7 seater so we thought, awsome! we can sleep in the back of it, except it wasn't made for tall people, we tried sleeping in theback and ... read more

Lindsay and Anne were out yesterday when some new guests knocked on the door, Jeanette let them in and got them organised (as she does), as part of the discussion the guy mentioned how there were some great caves to explore about half an hour from Skipton. He also mentioned a rope making business he was keen to check out, he had been there twice before (on a Saturday) and they had been closed – rope making as a tourist hightlight - Jury very much out on his credibility at this stage. BREAKFAST In the morning they came down for breakfast and not only did they make the novice mistake of not reading the menu but they then proceeded to tell cook Lindsay what they wouldn’t have! Poor old Lindsay he just couldn’t cope (not only ... read more

72 miles. Another day battling with the wind-not to be recommended-the JoGLE via the Pennines! No sooner do you get over the climb up a hill and over the top and the wind is trying to blow you back up it again! However, I was determined to follow the line of the Settle-Carlisle railway so I had no choice. It was however, beautiful cycling through the 3 peaks of the Yorkshire dales and brought back memories as I passed through Ribblehead of our walking trip last Summer. Unfortunately however along the route, I had my second fall off the bike-actually it was more like a crash ending up with 2 punctures. Most hurt though was my pride when a passing motorist asked if i was OK! Arrived at Malham to repair the punctures.......I really am looking ... read more

Ingleton Europe » United Kingdom » England » Yorkshire » Ingleton By lgh5000March 10th 2007 Ross arrived early morning on his birthday to Manchester. After fish and chips on the way home, we arrived at David and Vanessa's, and had the most delicious birthday cake. Then he opened up his birthday present, which was a suprise weekend trip to Ingleton, where he could enjoy the Waterfalls Walk there with me :) We then left later that afternoon, and took the train to Bentham, where we caught a Taxi to Ingleton. The next day we had a lovely walk a... read more
