Welcome to Sunny Scunny!! We've now been in England for just over a week, and it was time to surprise Mischa's Nana on her 80th birthday with our arrival.....but it wasn't all as planned!! So, Monday 1st December is Mischa's nana's birthday, so the plan the night before was to go up with Jeff and Lara and Cam to celebrate and surprise her all in one go, but when we woke up the morning we were going to leave, we woke to icy roads, closed motorways and not much chance of making it up in the car. We were still planning on going and staying for a few nights though, so we managed to find a way using the trains, only changing trains twice. It was also a lot quicker than normal, so we headed off ... read more

ITINERARY

This is the proposed itinerary. Bold type indicates where we hope to be camping. Princess Vince thinks that one day in London is enough, so I've moved the ferry from France to the next day - which happens to be Bastille Day - This will give us a stopover on the way from Cannes to Paris....otherwise it's a really long haul. We may be able to fit in the Normandy Invasion Beaches along with the Bayeaux Tapestry (depicting the Battle of Hastings in 1066) or go via Chartres Cathedral, built by the Knights Templar with the most amazing stained glass. As far as campsites go I have reserved the one's I can, the rest work on a first come first served basis...which is good (as we can be more flexible) and bad as we'll be arriving ... read more

Princess Vince has a list of what you need to bring, but I’ve seen nothing in writing to confirm what he’s told you. Son #1 was somewhat concerned so I emailed him the following...check with Son #7 if this is complete or not. Student ID card ATM card - make sure bank knows you’ll be travelling in Europe or they’ll freeze the card Travel Insurance - in case you get sick Sleeping Bag Pillow case Towel Toiletry bag for all your needs One niceish shirt and pair of pants + shoes - in case we go out to a reasonable restaurant Watch - so we can arrange times to meet etc $100+ in traveller’s checks as back up money Small back pack to carry when we’re sightseeing Check with your cell phone company for rates in ... read more

What a cute Bedzuki I think we're taking the one om the left... read more

I thought that the best place to kick off our world tour would be on the hallowed turf at Glanford Park - manager Nigel Adkins and defensive bedrock Cliff Byrne were kind enough to help with the piccies. Nigel told us about his favourite places in New Zealand and Cliff held the camera for the "group" shot. Steve No one should underestimate how excited Steve was today to meet Nigel and he is now considering cancelling the rest of the trip as he has already had the experience of a lifetime! Hello Mates! Well it has seemed like a long journey and we are only 8 weeks into it! Hopefully all the technical stuff is over and we can really begin to enjoy England and Europe. Our house is feeling more like a home everyday. We finally have high speed internet so that gives me more to do during the day. I thought I would write a blog to tell you a bit of what goes on around here. We live in the village of Scotter. We love Scotter! It has 3 pubs and Chinese take out, what more can you ask for?! We have gotten into a routine of going to our favorite pub, The Gamekeeper, every Friday. We have met some people there and they really like our "accents." Funny, I never knew I ... read more

Hello All~ I have been getting tons of messages asking about more blogs. So here's the deal---we have moved into a house. We have been in the house for over 2 weeks and still don't have internet. Koi was able to download a wireless program to his computer but that means I can only use it when he's home from work. Also, it is very, very, very slow. Therefore, I can't download photos(there's also security things that won't allow it on his computer) and it is difficult to email b/c the service is so slow. I would love to go somewhere to use the internet but no one here has it! We are currently, finally, getting a landline connected today so we will be receiving our equipment for the internet sometime in the next 2 weeks. ... read more

Where in England is Scotter? Brent & Julia Burklund We’ve secured a place to live. Our UK address is as follows: Brent and Julia Burklund 26 Astley Crescent Scotter GAINSBOROUGH DN21 3SL The village of Scotter is considered to be a very posh part of the Scunthorpe area. It lies outside of the city limits about 6 miles. The home is brand new and very modern as you’ll see from the pictures. There are 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and a loft area on the 2nd floor. We are going to have roommates (we know, yuck) but it was the only way to get something comparable to our living standards back home. We’ll see how it goes for the first 6 months then go from there. The house is set up very well for our situation, ... read more

Stacey and I went shopping today at The Foundry and Parish shops in Scunthorpe, and there isn’t much to say…it sucked. They do have an H&M but not much else. We will definitely be looking for other Avenues. We also got a bit of sticker shock today. Everything is the same price in pounds as it is in dollars, therefore twice as expensive. I guess Brent will be glad that I’m a bargain shopper at home…there are no bargains over here. I’ve attached a picture so you can see what it is like. Talk to you again soon. God Bless the USA!! Hello All~ We took a small tour of the countryside on Saturday. Sadly it is very similar to Kansas (but much greener) so it wasn't as interesting as I had hoped. We did see Koi's jobsite from a distance--its in a "dodgey" area--glad we're not living in Immingham! We will have to venture farther away to see better landscaping. However, it was very exciting to see all the different architecture and old buildings. We visited our first Cathedral. It is in the city of Lincoln, about 30 minutes from where we are staying. The cathedral is appropriately named, Lincoln Cathedral. You never really realize how old, old is, until you see it. It was an amazing site. So beautiful and so huge! It is tucked away in the centre of Lincoln. There are little streets ... read more
