This is the car we drove for 9 days while ours was being at the shop.
The Smurf

For those of you that are unaware, our roommate scraped a brick wall with the passenger side of our car in May. While it has been in the shop, I have been driving an English roller-skate…affectionately known as The Smurf. It is a Nissan Micra, and true to its name…very small. The upside…it is a breeze to park in the tight and small car park spaces and easier to drive down the narrow roads we travel on a daily basis.

The Flood

We’ve had some recent excitement in our little village of Scotter this week…flooding! In some areas, torrential downpours brought 12 inches of rain in one day - that's the usual amount which falls in a month. Our village is upstream from the hardest hit areas, so you can imagine the amount of water in other areas. The situation is being made worse because the ground is wet after last week's rain.

We did experience some road closures due to high water, and Brent got to come home early on Monday because the site had about a foot of water in the parking lot. The surrounding area of Immingham had also closed most of

the major road ways so their normal 30 minute drive home took about 2 hours on back roads.

By the end of the day on Monday, we had about 1.5 feet of standing water in our street. In addition to that, our local park with its quiet babbling broke is now a rushing river. Both streets on either side of the park are completely under water, and a few nearby homes are flooded. To us, it looks just like Brush Creek when it is full (which happens quite often in KC), but they haven’t had this much rain here in about 50 years.

WOW!
That is a lot of water! From the sounds of your message, your house didn't flood, right? I hope not. I am enjoying keeping up with you in England through this blog. It is like we are all there with you. We really enjoy the comments that go along with the pics too! Hope all is well. Not raining in KC, just hot and muggy as usual. Talk to you later and take care! Flood Waters
Hi Julia and Brent! The flood waters look like the scene at the Grand Lake in Oklahoma. When I crossed the bridge into my Dad's place, Friday before Father's Day, I couldn't believe all the water and flooding. Most of the travel trailers that came in for the summer, had to be pulled out of the water. Some were tetering and could have been swept out into the lake. The water rose very quickly. Looks like you are enduring the same experience. The Smurf......aahhhhhh!! I'm sure you buzz around in this little beauty. The pictures are always great for viewing and what a way to share this experience with you both. Love, Mom
